Philippine National Figure Skating Championships

On November 26-27, 2014, SM Skating Rink, along with the Philippine Skating Union will hold the Philippine’s National Figure Skating Championships—a competition that is designed to emerge a pool of skaters positioned to represent the country in the upcoming international skating competitions.

Earlier this year, the world laid witness to the Philippines’ home-grown figure skater, Michael Martinez, make his mark in the global arena as the first South East Asian figure skater to enter the Winter Olympics. Now managed by SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Inc., SM skating rink aims to develop a group of athletes specializing in winter-based sports who are capable and ready to represent the Philippines in 2015 ice skating competitions.

The 2014 Philippine National Figure Skating Championship is a step toward accomplishing the brand’s goal to recognize the potential of each skater. Catering solely to Filipino and Filipino-Foreign figure skaters, the Philippine National Figure Skating Competition gives Filipinos the chance to showcase their talents on a formal platform.

The first of the 2-day event serves as a pre-final round for skaters wherein all are required to perform interpretative routines or short programs. The second day of the competition will showcase the skaters’ free-skating program. Each skaters’ routines will be observed by the keen eyes of the judges from the International Skating Union which is the exclusive international sport federation recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) administering sports in the Branches of Figure Skating and Speed Skating throughout the world.

Unlike previous years, the 2014 PNFSC will reward champions with the chance to represent the Philippines in international competitions for the succeeding year. Garnering points for each skater’s standing, tournaments such as these provide an opportunity for every Filipino Skater to increase traction for his or her reputation in the skating community, but more importantly build the confidence and character of each athlete.

The Philippine National Figure Skating Championships will be held at the SM Mall of Asia International Skating Rink from November 26-27. Tournaments begin at 9AM and will last until 4PM. Audience members are invited to witness a spectacular performance from the 30 competitors, including skaters as young as 8 years old.
