Who says coming of age stories are passe? This Oscar-nominated film Lady Bird is written and directed by Greta Gerwig which is also her direvtorial debut. The film is probably a great achievement for women as it was nominated for Best Picture and Best Director by the Academy Awards.Lady Bird takes place in Sacramento with Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson looking forward for liberal college beyond the usual. While she waits for her application, she continues to study as a high school student in an Catholic School. There is various moments of fun with the scenes that are similar to many high school experience, myself included.
This made it fun to watch and connects to the audience with its direct approach to issues, letting them expand into drama without doing so many movie elements, in short it is raw yet shot beautifully. Lady Bird is not the only one on the spotlight as the characters around her like Julie, Danny and Kyle with their own dramas in life which are subtly funny yet essential for the story.
