PH records faster Internet speeds in December, up 9 notches for fixed BB

The Philippines logged better Internet speeds in December, improving in both mobile and fixed broadband rankings as it sustained a steady climb, the latest report of global Internet speed monitor Ookla showed.1

The country rose 9 places to 63 out of 178 in median fixed broadband connectivity, recording a median download speed of 50.26 Mbps, up from 46.44 in November.

Mobile connectivity also improved at a 19.20 Mbps median download speed, up from 18.68 the month prior. This pushed the Philippines up a notch to 89th out of 138 countries.

The improvement came amid a steadily growing demand for reliable Internet connectivity, with millions of Filipinos still working, studying and streaming entertainment online as movement restrictions persist due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Globe has been pursuing aggressive expansion and upgrade of its network across the country, building 1,407 new cell sites in 2021. It also upgraded and expanded 22,300 mobile sites during the said period.

The company has also established over 2,000 5G locations in key areas nationwide.

“It has been Globe’s mission to bring #1stWorldNetwork experience to Filipinos, and we have been working tirelessly to improve mobile and fixed broadband connectivity in the Philippines through our infrastructure expansion and upgrades,” said Ernest Cu, Globe President and Chief Executive Officer.

“As the pandemic continues, Filipinos can count on us to bring fast and reliable Internet service for their life essentials,” he said.

Globe strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 9 which highlights the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development. Globe is committed to upholding the 10 United Nations Global Compact principles and has committed to contribute to 10 of 17 UN SDGs.
