One of the most anticipated MCU movies in recent years, Fantastic Four First Steps had high expectations being called Marvel’s first family. Though there are also fears that it will receive bad reviews like its predecessors, this new adaptation of Fantastic Four got me excited for the new phase of the MCU.
With so many adaptations and universes, finally Marvel has found the sweet spot for the new Fantastic Four First Steps. Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic has now the dilemma of being a hero and father. Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman is indeed a mother in this movie and also very empowered because of this, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm is elevated to step up as a hero we never expected him to be. And Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing has charisma and talent that also comes as a surprise.
The score and music is so epic and I could say the best in the MCU. It raises the intensity of the scenes like the MCU anthem. Having it set in the 60's which is one of their peak decades with each member of the family having their moments along with their amazing powers. The visuals are indeed spot on and given that this is another universe gives mystery to its connection with other ones. Silver surfer and Galactus also show how menacing they are with their powers that is what many are looking for in villains.
Also I also want to show love to H.E.R.B.I.E. which I think can have its own spin off or even shorts, yet also possesses skills that are important to the team. Though I also wanted them to have more comedy gold moments as some moments would have been a perfect opportunity. I think there are also characters that are not given more depth in the story as if they have just had them placed there to invoke a reference or connection.
Though indeed it was first steps and not perfect, it paves the way to an exciting new phase of the Marvel universe. Its soundtrack is still resonating in my head as the scenes play in my head, which merits a rewatch soon. Like most families, the Fantastic Four can be problematic sometimes yet they always find a way to make it through.
