Caught Stealing - Goons, Guns, and a Cat

Austin Butler makes a mainstream comeback with this action crime thriller Caught Stealing that also stars Regina King, Zoë Kravitz, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, and Vincent D'Onofrio. The characters show a diversity of race and personalities that gives color from the start. Austin indeed has that charisma even coming from obscure characters in past films now embraces his role as Hank.

The timeline for this movie goes back to the 90’s where there are still a lot of ways to get away with illegal things. This setting gives a lot of things to happen without the expectations of the present. The violence is brutal yet comical at some points. It also mirrors a reality that even simple individuals can get caught up to complicated crimes with one wrong decision.

Though wanting to opt out spirals into the chaotic world of the goons and gold, it seems like a downward spiral into a crime network that is hateful and revenge-driven. The twists maybe analyzed early with the clues, yet there are also some surprises that keeps the excitement for the story.

All the main characters have interesting personalities  though might also come from stereotypes, but it is their personalities that made them stand out. Though I did find some of their demise needing more impact as the intensity increases. Overall, it was fun, thrilling, and painful and plus points for the cat that stole the show.

Caught Stealing is showing in Philippine cinemas starting September 10.
