REEL DEAL: A Million Ways To Die In The West REVIEW

From the success of TED, Seth McFarlane sets out into another movie that sets into a frenzy of comedy which is offensive yet entertaining. He now goes into the inspiration of western movies with "A Million Ways To Die In The West".

For this movie, it goes beyond Ted with the roster of casting like Liam Neeson, Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried and Neil Patrick Harris as the main characters. This is also a rare time, Theron goes into comedy knowing that she is more of sci-fi and action than making people laugh. Same goes with Liam Neeson which brings that seriousness into the plot.

Seth produces, directs and writes the story as he also injects his own brand of comedy like he did with Ted, Family Guy, and American Dad. This is also one of the movies Seth stars personally which he rarely happens as he is busy doing voice overs.

REEL DEAL: Amanda Seyfried, The Heartbreaker In “A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST”

Amanda Seyfried (“Les Miserables,” “Red Riding Hood”) stars as Louise, the woman who would break the hero's heart in, Universal Pictures' new comedy “A Million Ways to Die in the West” (opening exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas nationwide on Sept 3.)

In the film, after sheep farmer Albert (Seth MacFarlane) backs out of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend, Louise (Seyfried) leaves him for another man. When a mysterious and beautiful woman named Anna (Charlize Theron) rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love. But when her husband (Liam Neeson), a notorious outlaw, arrives seeking revenge, the farmer must put his newfound courage to the test.

The filmmakers wanted to find an actress who was right in the "Goldilocks" zone, someone who could express that artful balance between a woman whom you don't really want the guy to end up with because she's not the nicest person, but a character who still has enough redeeming qualities that you don't think the guy is an idiot for pining after her. Someone "just right."

Meet “Max,” “Furiosa,” “Nux” and “Immortan Joe” – the four lead characters of Warner Bros.' upcoming action-adventure, “Mad Max: Fury Road” in their own individual posters.

“Mad Max: Fury Road” is the fourth film of George Miller‘s Road Warrior/Mad Max franchise co-written and directed by Miller. REEL DEAL: Snow White and the Huntsman REVIEW

Skin white as snow, lips red as blood, hair black as night, bring me you heart... my dear... dear... Snow White.

Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all...

These are the lines that people recognize and know belongs to the well loved fairy tale now brought to a different light with Snow White and the Huntsman. Kristen Stewart (Twilight), Chis Hemsworth (Thor, Avengers) and Charlize Theron leads the cast as Snow White, Huntsman, and Queen Ravena respectively.

And even with new take of the story, the key elements are still there like the magic mirror, dwarves, and the poison apple. This is similar to the latest Alice in Wonderland who is also the producer for this film. It is also not all evil with the queen but also shows the journey on how she became the queen with the mirror.

Kristen Stewart makes a break away from her twilight image and also impressive with her action scenes, also Chris Hemsworth weilding axes and knives instead of a hammer.

REEL DEAL: Snow White and the Huntsman - Charleze Theron SPOTLIGHT

Charlize Theron’s monsters turns to evil queen.

Reflects director Rupert Sanders on the power of this creature in our minds, as well as her role in this interpretation of the iconic story: “The Queen symbolizes death, and she is trying to stop her own from arriving.  She is seeking immortality, so everything in the kingdom is thrown off balance.  Oppositely, Snow White is the beating heart of life, and the Huntsman’s job is to take that life.  If the Queen fails, life and death may fall back in sync and the kingdom will return to how it once was.”

Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron was brought aboard to play the fabled monarch.  Discussing his decision to cast Theron, Sanders commends: “Charlize has given such staggering performances in her career, but she is also such an incredibly beautiful woman.  She encompasses, more than any other actor out there, both power and beauty personified.  She is Margaret Thatcher-meets-Kate Moss.”

REEL DEAL: Snow White and The Huntsman - Kristen Stewart SPOTLIGHT

Kristen Stewart Twilight’s turning into Snow as White

In Snow White and the Huntsman, a breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale begins. Kristen  Stewart  plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron). The casting of Ravenna’s nemesis was slightly trickier than finding her pursuer.  The filmmakers were searching for an actress who could capture both sides of the archetypal character: the innocence, naiveté and tenderness that Snow White demonstrates in the first half of our story, and the tough, physical warrior princess that she becomes in the second half.  They discovered a number of younger actresses who could play the first half of the movie brilliantly but had trouble convincing the team that they could carry off the tougher persona.  Likewise, when older actresses auditioned, they could well portray the battle-hardened soldier but were unconvincing as the recessive captive that the film’s early scenes demanded.

REEL DEAL: Snow White And The Huntsman - Chris Hemsworth SPOTLIGHT

Chris Hemsworth : From ‘Thor’ to legendary Huntsman

The other title character to be cast was, of course, the Huntsman: Eric, a hunter who knows the Enchanted and Dark Forests like the back of his hands.  Not only did the Huntsman once have respect for the animals he tracked, he also still has the ability to think like one.  But after his wife, Zara, died, Eric found his only comfort as a mercenary and a drunk.  Now, the Huntsman has been tasked to follow Snow White into the forest and return her to Ravenna, who needs to consume her heart.  But when Eric discovers the treachery of the Queen, he channels his rage into training a young woman who is determined to end what Ravenna began.  Eric begins to see in Snow White an end to the darkness and to believe that the king’s standard could fly again.

Initially conceived as a character much older than Snow White, the Huntsman morphed during the screenplay’s development.  Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, was courted for the part after the filmmakers watched him in his career-defining role as the Nordic god of war.  His charisma and on-screen presence convinced them that he could embody the tortured former soldier who finds salvation in a young woman called Snow White.

REEL DEAL: Prometheus 3D - Noomi Rapace SPOTLIGHT

NOOMI RAPACE IN A TUG BETWEEN SCIENCE AND BELIEFS IN “PROMETHEUS” (3D)

Noomi Rapace won rave reviews and came to worldwide attention for her performance as Lisbeth Salander in the original Swedish language Millennium films – “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,” “The Girl Who Played With Fire” and “The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest.” After working for a decade in her native Sweden she is now in huge demand for Hollywood movies including Ridley Scott’s return to sci-fi in the suspenseful futuristic mythology “Prometheus” in 3D.

REEL DEAL: Snow White and the Huntsman SPOTLIGHT

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen Oscar® winner Charlize Theron out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman Chris Hemsworth (Thor and The Avengers) dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

“Snow White and the Huntsman” is released and distributed by United International Pictures through Solar Entertainment Corp.

REEL DEAL: Prometheus - Michael Fassbender SPOTLIGHT

Michael Fassbender: Engineered Android in “Prometheus 3D”

One of the fastest-rising stars in the business, the 34 year-old German-born, Irish-raised Fassbender has wowed multiplex and arthouse audiences alike over the past couple of years with searing, indelible turns in the likes of “Hunger,” “X-Men: First Class,” “Inglourious Basterds” and “Shame,” which saw him reunite with Steve McQueen. A passionate, instinctive actor, who better than Fassbender to breathe humanity into David’s cold hard exterior in the highly anticipated sci-fi adventure “Prometheus (3D)”?

From Ian Holm’s duplicitous Ash to Lance Henriksen’s dependable Bishop, androids have played a huge part in the Alien franchise. So it’s not a huge surprise to find that Prometheus also has an artificial humanoid on board its eponymous spaceship, in the blond-haired guise of Michael Fassbender’s David.

The character of David represents Prometheus' “company man.” An androgynous android with personality defects, David is the eyes and ears of the Weyland Corporation that funds the Prometheus mission.

Fassbender in the following q&a shares his take on humanity, working with Ridley Scott and Prometheus’ weighty themes.

Q:        Who is Dav-eed?
A:        He’s the robot. Or humanoid. Or android. Or whatever you want to call it. He’s like a butler. The first thing I wanted to do with him was to make him ambiguous. Should he be having emotions? I wanted to keep it ambiguous and have a lot of fun with it and enjoy it. I don’t know if that’s an easy description, but there’s so much comedy in him, actually, that I wanted to try to explore that as much as I could.

REEL DEAL: Prometheus 3D SPOTLIGHT

“PROMETHEUS 3D” – Creating Shaw and Meeting Her Maker

There has been a lot of speculation that “Prometheus” is a prequel to Scott’s highly acclaimed earlier film, Alien. The director wants to keep the story under wraps so that audiences view the film without preconceived ideas.

But he has admitted that there are links.  In “Prometheus,” the mission is funded by Peter Wayland (Guy Pearce), the ageing head of a huge corporation.  The action takes place 30 years before the story told in Alien.

Leading the Prometheus expedition is the character of Elizabeth Shaw, played by Noomi Rapace. From director Ridley Scott, who delivered the likes of “Thelma & Louise” and “Alien,” we can immediately expect a strong character to inhabit Shaw's spacesuit. And at the hands of Rapace, best known for her work in the tremendously-popular Swedish Millenium series, she comes alive as a new action heroine for the 21st Century.
