Margot Robbie as Cathy in Emerald Fennell’s movie adaptation of “Wuthering Heights”

“What I wanted to make was something that distilled the feeling that I had when I was 14 while I read it,” says filmmaker Emerald Fennell in a featurette for “Wuthering Heights.” Fennell directed, produced and wrote the screenplay for her film adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel. “Every camera movement, every single prop has an emotional reason for existing. It is undeniable.”

REVIEW: Wuthering Heights - Whirlwind of Passion and Deception

Based on the novel of Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights has been adapted numerous times yet the story still resonates to the conflicts of love, passion, and torment. Now adapted with Margot Robbie as Catherine and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, which also features a soundtrack from Charlie XCX, brings the story with a new style that blends the old period with some modern elements.

Magot Robbie's role as Catherine brings back her bold and seductive charm and paired with Jacob Elordi indeed made it feel like those passionate romance novels with descriptive sensual moments and also something similar to the 50 shades books. The cinematography shows a variety of lens of class, status, and values, paired with eerie yet effective score brought weight to the story.

“For me, the first time you see ‘Wuthering Heights’ should feel like this fever dream,” says director Emerald Fennell (“Saltburn”) in the new featurette for her highly anticipated adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel.

And judging by the description of Margot Robbie, who plays Cathy in the film and is also a producer, audiences will feel just that. “Twisted, provocative, romantic,” says Robbie of the film in the same featurette.
