Sister’s piggybank launched TV child star’s career

Sometime in December 2011, after arriving home from school, ten-year old Jinkee Magan saw on TV an advertisement that would change her life.  GMA Network announced that it was going to hold auditions for child singers who would star in a new program.  The young dreamer thought that this was her ticket to stardom.  Ever since she saw her idol Regine Velasquez perform on television, she has always wanted to be a TV star herself. Months later, the poor child dreamer becomes a child star and a household name: Roseanne Magan.

Born to be a star

Born Jinkee Mae Magan on February 22, 2002, Roseanne is the sixth of seven children of factory worker Juanito and housewife Rosemarie Magan.  Though neither parent is a professional singer – and so are her siblings – Roseanne has showed signs of being a singing star at a very young age.  At six, she was already competing in amateur singing contests.  Since then, she was joining contests here and there -- from barangay fiestas to mall shows.

“Noong una siyang nagpakita ng interes sa pagkanta, ang napapansin namin e paborito niya yung kanta ng Aegis (a local band),” recalls Roseanne’s father. “Pero ang idol niya talaga ay si Regine (Velasquez).”

Run To Commemorate Chit Simbulan’s Death

When I was young, we got into a car crash while on the dark national highway up north, luckily no one got hurt as the impact was at the rear end of our car and me and my siblings were sleeping at the back. In 2011, AJ Perez, the rising ABS CBN star got killed in an accident that also happened in the north highway. Road crahes happens everyday and may range from having minor scratches to fatal casualties.

“Itong mga nangyayaring road crashes, they could really alter someone’s life,” said Roland Simbulan, the husband of the U.P. professor/journalist who was killed in a bus-taxi collision last May 13, 2011.

It’s been almost a year since the untimely death of Lourdes “Chit” Estella Simbulan.

Speed limit has been implemented on major highways, including Commonwealth Avenue—where Chit died instantly.

But the numbers on road injuries keep on rising.

Brian "The Hawaiian Punch" Viloria wants payback from Mexican Omar Niño Romero

Coming off a banner year in 2011, Filipino boxing champion Brian "The Hawaiian Punch" Viloria puts his WBO Flyweight title at stake in his much-awaited match against Mexican Omar Niño "The Giant Killer" Romero this Sunday, May 13.
The fight titled "Laban ng Lahi Presents Island Assault 4: Viloria vs. Romero" airs live with no delays from the Ynares Sports Complex in Pasig at 9:30 A.M on GMA Network.
After capturing the WBO Flyweight belt from Julio Cesar Miranda in July 2011 and delivering a decisive victory over another Mexican fighter, Giovanni Segura, in December, Viloria makes it his personal mission to finally claim victory against Romero in their third fight.
In their first meeting in August 2006, Viloria lost his WBC Light Flyweight crown to Romero via unanimous decision.  This was followed by a "no contest" decision due to Romero's failure to pass in the post-fight drug test, although judges' scorecards originally scored the fight as a majority draw.
