REEL DEAL: Stoker REVIEW

An movie is not effective if it will not leave you moved or disturbed even after the film. This is what I have felt (and until now) with STOKER, starring Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode, and Nicole Kidman.

Not like the usual thriller movies which focuses more on the killing blood and gore, it disturbs one to the core with the mystery and imagery shown in the film. As a grieving family Stoker is joined by a mysterious uncle Charlie (Goode), things gets more clearer and complicated at the same time.

It does not also keep the cryptic clues to deep for viewers to know what is going on, but it leaves the audience in a stalemate on what will happen with all of the story and the characters, how they would react, or what will happen eventually.

Stoker is also my first time to see a film by Park Chon-Wook, and saw a different yet effective style of directing which is made meticulously up to the last detail. You may not scream beacuse of fear but rather feel the tension inside with emotions, morality disturbed on the turn of events.

Stoker is brought to you by 20th Century Fox Philippines and Warner Bros. Now Showing in Theaters nationwide.

Deliberation time kids!

Show summary in 3 lines: Age for what?
Technical Effects: 3 out of 5 stars (Cinematography is well coordinated, yet effects are just right and not too exaggerated)
Plot: 5 out of 5 stars (I still can't get over the scenes, and my mind is still disturbed)
Acting and Actors: 4 out of 5 stars  (with 3 main characters going through intense scenes, its really great that they have a good connection in terms of creepiness)
Music and Soundtracks:  4 out for 5 stars (good music played at the right moment)
DVD Worthiness: YAY! (hope it includes a "Ice Cream")
Pros:  Characters, Plot, Actors, Setting, cinematography
Cons:  Shaky camera shots, fast paced scenes
Overall Rating: 4.4 out of 5 stars (A whole new kind of thriller movies which I can say is the best for the year so far)
