Freaks - Fight or Flight, That Is The Question

With today were we have a lot of superhero movies, it is also scary to think what happens if there are real ones? Definitely the world will freak out and have them researched, tested, and even persecuted. A reality which FREAKS wants to portray as it hits Philippine theaters today.

Freaks was initially shown at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and now getting their debut here through TBA Studios.Directed, written, and produced by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the film tells the story of a 7 year-old girl named Chloe who grew up locked inside an secluded house with her father.

Being cut off from the outside world, she longs to go outside and meet and play with other people. However, it has got to do with their abilities that will be revealed as the story progresses. Her desire to go outside intensifies when a mysterious ice cream truck came to their neighborhood and gets in touch with her.
It has the vibe just like the TV series 'Heroes' which are special individuals with abilities getting into situations that will either have them captured or killed. While some would want to stay hidden, the complexity of the crackdown will come to them eventually. It has some violence and blood, yet the MTRCB gave the film a PG rating.

Freaks stars Emile Hirsch, Bruce Dern, Grace Park, Amanda Crew, and Lexy Kolker, who was seven years old at the time of filming.  Directed by Dexter Fletcher, now showing in cinemas. Directed by Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky, now showing in cinemas though TBA Studios.

Deliberation time kids!

Favorite quote: “I want Ice cream"  - Chloe (Lexy Kolker)

Technical Effects: 4 out of 5 stars (SFX are good, with gore made into quick scenes, it just wants to intensify the moments)

Plot: 3 out of 5 stars (Though the story progress can be predicted, it has a good approach to keep it interesting.)

Acting and Actors: 5 out of 5 stars (Lexy Kolker was amazing that she made a good performance even at her age)

Pros:  Concept, gore, SFX
Cons:  It has a horror vibe at the start which feels weird for a science fiction film

Music and Soundtracks:  3 out for 5 stars (Some sounds are quite generic yet appropriate for it scenes)

Overall: Rating 4.1 out of 5 stars (I like it can be expanded and how it progressed, hopefully there will be a sequel soon)
