PFRD now accepting entries for 30th Apolinario Mabini Awards

The Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled (PFRD) will launch  the 30th Apolinario Mabini Awards  (AMA) on Friday, July 26 at Club Filipino in San Juan City, and  will start accepting  entries for the 2020  AMA ceremonies.

The Apolinario Mabini Awards honors persons with disabilities (PWDs) who have made lasting positive impact in their fields of specialization. The AMA ceremonies also recognizes organizations and individuals who have implemented sustainable tools and programs to improve  the quality of life for the disabled.

Launched in 1974 by the PFRD, the biennial event is named after Apolinario Mabini, the Filipino revolutionary who fulfilled his role as the brain of the revolution despite his disabilities. Because of his contributions to the revolution, he became known as “the Sublime Paralytic.” Today, he is a shining exemplar  for PWDs who can overcome their disabilities and succeed in any endeavour.

Among the many categories for consideration are the Mabini Presidential Award for exceptional contributions to the rehabilitation of persons with disabilities in the last two years, and the PWD Filipino of the Year, awarded to a disabled Filipino citizen who has been able to surmount his/her handicap and can serve as a role model to other individuals with disabilities.

Another category is Disabled Group of the Year, to be given to a group composed of disabled Filipino citizen who have surmounted disabilities and together attained noteworthy achievements in a cultural, educational, vocational, spiritual, athletic or economic activity, as well as Employer of the Year, awarded to an employer of any nationality in business or industry, government or private, that has an outstanding record of hiring, employing or promoting persons with disabilities for at least three years.

Other categories include Disabled-Friendly Establishment, Local Government Unit of the Year, Rehabilitation Volunteer of the Year, Media Advocate of the Year, and Website Accessibility Award.

The 30th Apolinario Mabini Awards ceremony will take place next year on a date to be announced during the launch event. To learn more about the awards or to stay updated about news and events related to PFRD, visit the website at http://pfrd.org.ph/amabini.html.
