Acclaimed Filmmaker Guillermo Del Torro Gives Romance A New Form In “THE SHAPE OF WATER”

Take a deep breath and plunge deeply into the latest genre-defying romance fantasy movie “The Shape of Water” starring an impressive cast that includes Academy winner Octavia Spencer with Academy Award nominees Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon and Richard Jenkins along with Doug Jones, known for his pivotal nonhuman roles.   

From master storyteller, Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim, Pan’s Labyrinth, The Book of Life), comes “The Shape of Water”,  an other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1962.  In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Hawkins) is trapped in a life of isolation.  Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment.

Best known for playing the malevolent General Zod in “Man of Steel,” Oscar-nominee Michael Shannon now stars in Warner Bros. Pictures’ supernatural thriller “Midnight Special” as Roy, a peaceful and thoughtful man -- not prone to violence, but will nevertheless fight with everything he’s got when it matters. 

Roy and his wife (Kirsten Dunst) were members of a cult, and within those confines their only son Alton was born.  When the boy began to exhibit unique powers, the cult’s leader stepped in to “adopt” him, as such an extraordinary child couldn’t be raised by ordinary people.  Alton’s mother was likely excommunicated for her protests, while Roy took a different tack: silently planning and waiting for a chance to break free with the boy.  “From that moment,” director Jeff Nichols suggests, “his goal was to make sure Alton was okay.  And when it became clear that Alton needed to be somewhere else, Roy was determined to get him there.

Gripping Thriller "Midnight Special" Exclusive at Cinema 2000 Group‏

Warner Bros. Pictures Philipines has officially announced that its new sci-fi thriller “Midnight Special” will open in Metro Manila on April 20 exclusively at Cinema 2000 group of theaters, namely Century City, Commercenter, Eastwood, Festival Mall and Shang Cineplex.

The critically acclaimed, supernatural film follows a father, Roy (Michael Shannon), who goes on the run to protect his young son, Alton (Jaeden Lieberher), a boy with mysterious powers that even Roy himself cannot comprehend.

What starts as a race from religious extremists and local law enforcement quickly escalates to a nationwide manhunt involving the highest levels of the Federal Government. Risking everything, Roy is committed to helping Alton reach his ultimate purpose, whatever that might be and whatever it costs, in a story that takes audiences on a perilous journey from Texas to the Florida coast, while exploring the bonds of love and trust, and the nature of faith.

“Midnight Special” stars Oscar nominee Michael Shannon (“Revolutionary Road,” “Man of Steel”), Joel Edgerton (“Black Mass”), Kirsten Dunst (TV’s “Fargo”), Adam Driver (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”) Jaeden Lieberher (“St. Vincent,” TV’s “Masters of Sex”) and Oscar nominee Sam Shepard (“August Osage County”). Rounding out the main cast are Bill Camp (“Lincoln”), Scott Haze (“As I Lay Dying”) and Paul Sparks (“HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire”).
