Before setting off on a big adventure with Illumination’s “Migration,” get to know the film’s new original characters and the talented cast that voiced them. 

“We tried to find actors that were somewhat like their roles,” shares director Benjamin Renner. “That was great because we could ask them to share experiences and adlib with their performances.”

Elizabeth Banks and Kumail Nanjiani talk about what they love about Illumination's adventure-packed new original comedy "Migration"

For both Elizabeth Banks and Kumain Nanjiani, joining the voice cast of “Migration,” Illumination’s new original comedy, was a no-brainer. 

“Migration” tells the story of a duck family that takes flight into the thrill of the unknown with a funny, feathered family vacation like no other. While dad Mack (voiced by Nanjiani) is content to keep his family, the Mallards, safe paddling around their New England pond forever, mom Pam (Banks) is eager to shake things up and show their kids – teen son Dax (Caspar Jennings) and duckling daughter Gwen (Tresi Gazal) – the whole wide world. After a migrating duck family alights on their pond with thrilling tales of far-flung places, Pam persuades Mack to embark on a family trip, via New York City, to tropical Jamaica.

New year, new beginning. 

This January, meet the latest original adorable characters created by Illumination, the animation studio behind the record-shattering The Super Mario Bros. Movie and beloved franchises Minions, Despicable Me, Sing and The Secret Life of Pets—a duck family called the Mallards, who are going to embark on a great big adventure for the first time ever in the new comedy Migration. 

And it’s not just the Mallards who are doing something new. With Migration, a funny, emotional and visually stunning film that explores universal themes of family, curiosity and the rewards of stepping outside your comfort zone, Illumination embarks on a new adventure as well.
