ena mori, syd hartha, and Joey Benin to join ‘befriending my tears, a Clara Benin concert’

Eclectic pop artist ena mori, fast-rising singer-songwriter syd hartha, and multi-awarded musician Joey Benin of Side A will be joining befriending my tears, a Clara Benin concert at the Music Museum on September 22, 2023 (Friday), from 7 pm onwards.

Both ena and syd will be performing as guest acts, while Joey Benin will reunite with his daughter Clara for a special segment.

“ena mori and syd hartha are both favorites of mine and I always feel inspired whenever I watch them perform and I think that my fans will really enjoy their performances as well as they open the show,” shares the Filipino singer-songwriter. “Every time I have a big show, I always make sure to have my dad, Joey Benin, join me on stage to play a few songs. He’s made such a huge impact in my music and being able to play with him on stage is always a fun and humbling experience.”

Celebrating the release of her sophomore studio album, befriending my tears, with a show made specifically for her fans, the concert chronicles Benin’s journey as an artist coming to terms with self-acceptance and healing while showcasing musical maturity through years of experience and growth.

Clara adds, “I can never thank my fans enough for all the love and support they’ve been giving me, especially after my album release! All I can say is, I can’t wait to meet you guys at the concert and I’m really excited for you to hear us perform all the songs from the album!”

‘befriending my tears, a Clara Benin concert’ serves as her second major show after staging a sold-out, two-night residency at Teatrino Greenhills in 2016. This time around, the Parallel Universe artist will be performing all the songs from her newly released album, along with fan favorites from her catalog.

A tribute to an album that honors Benin’s newfound artistry and emotional strength, don’t miss your chance to be part of this show-stopping concert.

‘befriending my tears, a Clara Benin concert’ is presented by CNCA Media Concepts Inc., in partnership with Sony Music Entertainment.

Japan’s Tokimeki Records finds new city pop muse in Filipina singer-songwriter syd hartha

Listen to the boogie-infused cover of The Cardigan’s “Carnival”

After gaining prominence with some notable pop classics, Japanese music project Tokimeki Records brings boogie and ‘80s retro sounds back to the dancefloor with a reimagining of The Cardigans’ “Carnival.”

Featuring Filipina singer-songwriter syd hartha on vocals, the new version of “Carnival” evokes pre-pandemic Tokyo where neon pulses through the towering skyscrapers and a random stroll downtown offers the best form of therapeutic escape. Trading the ‘90s twee-pop sound of the original for a more lighthearted disco-pop affair, electronic music producer Yutaka Takanami of Tokimeki Records embraces the carefree bliss that has come to define his previous releases, while infusing spacious production and sticky-sweet, synthesizer melodies to the mix.

Music Lane Okinawa Rescheduled to February 20-21, 2021

Following the recent declaration of State of Emergency for the central area in Tokyo, Japan, the Music Lane Festival Okinawa 2021 (Music Lane Okinawa) and Trans Asia Music Meeting 2021 has been rescheduled to February 20 and 21, 2021.

According to a statement released by organizers, the decision to postpone the festival follows the recent rising cases of the COVID-19 in different parts of Japan. “Although Okinawa is not included in the State of Emergency, there are many artists and audiences participating from Tokyo and the surrounding prefectures. In addition, the spread of infection in Okinawa Prefecture is becoming more prominent again… We felt that pushing the festival to be held in these circumstances could cause inconvenience and trouble to the participating artists, audiences, and all the staff members.”

More than 33 Asian music acts will showcase at the festival weekend, with local artists performing in front of live audiences at Sakurazaka Theater, Sakurazaka Central, and other venues in Naha; and Music Town Oto-Ichiba, 7th Heaven Koza, Remy’s, and more venues to be announced in Okinawa City—all of which will implement strict prevention measures against COVID-19. The festival will stream pre-recorded live sets from international artists curated by its partner music organizations from seven countries.

American alt-pop artist Sarah Barrios teams up with Filipina singer-songwriter syd hartha on instant bop “All My Sins”

American singer-songwriter Sarah Barrios teams up with award-winning Filipina artist syd hartha on “All My Sins,” an electro-pop jam that sounds firm and assured even when it dips into pulsating minimalism and nostalgic, clubby feel.

With a dreamy pop approach thrown in for good measure, “All My Sins” is an instant bop that builds into a swoon-worthy chorus. Its understated shimmer blends well with both Sarah and syd’s compelling vocals, made more appealing with a lush and effortless arrangement.

According to Sarah, “All My Sins” was written as response to being haunted by a mistake committed in the past. “For me, this song is about thinking through all of the mistakes you've made and asking the question of, ‘Am I a bad person? Or am I just too hard on myself?’ I'm definitely an over thinker and a perfectionist, so sometimes I find myself in this place,” the songstress said.
