Zachary Levi Unleashes His Imagination In “Harold And The Purple Crayon”

Lil Rel Howery and Zachary Levi as Moose and Harold are let loose in the real world in Harold and the Purple Crayon

The enduring family classic Harold and the Purple Crayon has a playful new twist in the film adaptation, where Harold is no longer a toddler, but grows up and travels to the real world. Playing the titular character is Zachary Levi, who’s no stranger to showing off his comedic chops with roles like Billy Batson in Shazam! “Zac embodies everything that Harold stands for: whimsy, childlike wonder, a kind of joyful optimism,” says executive producer Jeremy Stein. “I really, truly look at Zac and think of Tom Hanks in Big. He sells Harold’s journey with such magnificent maturity and sympathy.”

Levi is excited about Harold’s new journey beyond his fantastical world, and the deeper meaning behind all the laughter. “When I saw the script, I loved the idea of Harold getting out of his comfort zone, going into the real world, and embarking on an adventure with innocence and wide-eyed naivete,” Levi says. “That quest for answers is a driving force for him.”

Tanya Reynolds, Levi’s co-star who plays Harold’s friend Porcupine, feels that there’s a lot of Harold’s qualities in Levi. “Harold is filled with joy and thrilled to be alive,” she says. “Zac has that same lovely, playful, and wholesome energy.”

Levi shares that his friends have been excited to see him don the iconic Harold onesie when they found out about his role in the film. “When I tell my friends I’m working on Harold and the Purple Crayon, they try to figure out who I’m playing,” says Levi. “When I tell them Harold, they just laugh. I think they’re hoping to see me running around in Harold’s onesie.” He grins. “They may or may not get to see a little of that.”

Let your imagination go wild as Harold and the Purple Crayon opens in PH cinemas on August 21.

Zachary Levi Returns as "SHAZAM!" in the Epic Sequel "Fury of the Gods"

The all-new epic adventure “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” marks the supercharged return of Zachary Levi as Shazam, the irreverent yet sincere, wise-cracking teen-turned-DC Super Hero who—along with his Shazamily—must harness their extraordinary superpowers to face off against the Daughters of Atlas. This trio of fierce Greek goddesses and their monsters will stop at nothing to reclaim their destiny and, oh yeah, destroy the world!

The film’s amped-up action, new worlds, stakes of mythological proportion, roster of aspirational heroes, exceedingly menacing villains and signature brand of humor perfectly tailored to star Levi made signing on for the David F. Sandberg-directed sequel an easy “yes” even before the script had been penned by writers Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the pitch before I even got to read the script!” recalls Levi. “When David and Henry told me what the whole concept of the second movie was going to be, I was in. I thought, ‘These are great ingredients for building a really wonderful sequel to what we had already created,’ so I was very excited about that and about getting back together with all of the cast and crew I loved so much, and it’s just a really fun role to play. I mean, I get to be a Super Hero, and a really fun one at that.”

Get Electrified with “Shazam!” in IMAX at SM Cinema!

DC superfans, say the word as SM Cinema brings you an exciting and electrifying IMAX experience with the newest superhero in town, the magnificent "Shazam!"

As Billy Batson lives what he thinks is a normal 14-year-old’s life, shouting out “Shazam!” changes all that as he turns into an adult Super Hero, Shazam. Given by an ancient Wizard, Billy tries to discover Shazam’s superhero abilities with the help of his foster brother, Freddy. Now that there is a great danger approaching them, Shazam has to master his abilities to fight evil brought by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.

SHAZAM! - A Marvelous And Fun Hero in the DC Universe

DC is getting on the right track with their latest movies like Aquaman which has reached more than $1 Billion in the box office. Now comes another DC character which is already getting ground with his humor and charm as seen in the trailers. Shazam! is potentially powerful as Aquaman in terms of anticipation and might do well in the cinemas as well.

Starring Zachary Levi, this champion also known as Captain Marvel of the DC universe comes in a great time where DC is now embracing their fun and adventurous plots rather than the deep and dark ones of the past. Given that the character in the comics also has a quirky side and an alter ego of a kid named Billy Batson played by Asher Angel.

It was a fun and interesting world to deal with as Shazam is powered by magic from mystics of the ancient world. His foes would also come from the same realm of mysticism which opens a new wave of possible heroes and villains that will also become part of the DC Universe. What we like most about the film is the development of the characters although comical at first, but eventually reveals as very pivotal for the whole story.

Zachary Levi Brims with Hope, Enthusiasm as "SHAZAM!"

Zachary Levi (“Thor: The Dark World,” TV’s “Chuck,” “Heroes Reborn”) stars as the titular DC Super Hero of New Line Cinema’s origin story “SHAZAM!”

Director David F. Sandberg says Levi’s passion and youthful nature were vital in his casting.  “It was important to find someone who could feel like a kid in a grownup’s body.  I think a mistake a lot of people make when grownups try to play kids is that they just sort of lower the IQ, just play it dumber.  And kids aren’t dumber, they’re just inexperienced, and more enthusiastic about life.  And they don't have the filter that a lot of adults have.   So that’s what we were looking for and what we absolutely found in Zachary Levi.”

Production Stars on New Line Cinema's "Shazam!"

Production is underway on New Line Cinema’s “Shazam!” David F. Sandberg (“Annabelle: Creation”) directs the origin story, which stars Zachary Levi (TV’s “Chuck”) as the titular DC Super Hero, along with Asher Angel (TV’s “Andi Mack”) as Billy Batson, and Mark Strong (the “Kingsman” movies) in the role of Super-Villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. Peter Safran (upcoming “Aquaman,” “The Conjuring” and “Annabelle” films) serves as the film’s producer.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

I'm So Stoked With Heroes Reborn On Jack TV

I was not a fan of American series back in college, but when I saw Heroes back them, it triggered the fan boy in me. Since I am also into superheroes and comics, the series was the only series I got so much engaged on that I even looked into their comics, mini-series and wiki. However it also ended when they decided to end the series back in 2010.

But that excitement is back with the revival of the series with Heroes Reborn. This still follows the story of the original series with some old characters returning for this show. Created by Tim Kring,  HEROES REBORN will have an epic 13-episode event series that chronicles the lives of ordinary people who discover they possess extraordinary abilities.

Fans can look forward to seeing some of the original Heroes cast members return to the series, such as Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura, Greg Grunberg as Matt Parkman and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Mohinder Suresh.
