The year has been very tragic to many of Filipinos especially to those affected by Typhoon Yolanda, Visayas Earthquake and the Zamboanga Crisis. It would be fitting that the first mass is offered to all those who fell victim to these unfortunate events. And as of this writing, news of the accident which happened on the Skyway is also heartbreaking.
The start of the Simbang Gabi is the most important and challenging of all of the masses since it will be the first and missing it would affect the spiritual momentum. I chose to start with the territorial parish which reminds me that I have to start with where I am first before going to different places.
The church was indeed filled inside and out however it still saddens me to see people going to mass just for the heck of it. And it seems its more of a "barkada" thing than a moment for prayer.
The gospel is about John the baptist as he lights the way until the coming of the Messiah. The journey is now starting and many people will be drawn to it, the measure of dedication will now happen with the succeeding days to complete the Simbang Gabi not to mind the personal wishes but find that spiritual spot as Advent comes close to Christmas.
Prayer for Healing
Dear Lord,
Please heal our land, our hearts, our mind, and our soul. We have faced many tragedies this year and lost a lot of our possessions. Help us to rise up again, heal the pain of the disaster we endured and start again from all what we have left. Thank you for the good hearted people you sent, bless them for their generosity and empathy. May we start a new year to heal all these scars, and we know it will never be easy. But we have faith that grew more stronger after the storm. Where we found the true meaning of peace.
Amen.
San Felipe Neri Parish is located in Boni Avenue and Aglipay Street Mandaluyong City. Dawn Masses start at 4 am and anticipated simbang gabi has been suspended until the 23rd.
