United States Representative Ed Royce (2nd from right), World Food Programme (WFP) Philippines Representative and Country Director Praveen Agrawal (leftmost) and Department of Social Welfare and Development Regional Director Nestor Ramos (2nd from left in red vest) assist in the food distributions to households affected by Typhoon Yolanda at Barangay San Jose, Palo, Leyte.

Eight United States (US) Representatives headed by Congressman Ed Royce, together with US Ambassador to the Philippines Philip Goldberg, visited Typhoon Yolanda-affected communities in Leyte last 21 February 2014.

The United States of America responded swiftly and generously to WFP’s funding appeal, providing close to US$25 million, representing 27 percent of overall contributions received for the relief operation. The flexibility of both in-kind and cash contributions allowed WFP to tailor assistance to match the diverse and changing needs of affected populations.
