Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony Seen Live on TV5

Like the summer games which was held in London back in 2012, the winter Olympics is another world sporting event that the entire planet is watching. As the XXII Olympic Winter Games are held in the city of Sochi, Russia, many await the opening ceremonies that will mark the start of the games and also a feast for the spectators all over the world. For our part of the world, TV5 is the official Philippine Olympic Network.

The Opening Ceremonies started on Friday at 12 midnight (Philippine Standard Time) live from Sochi and a replay at 12PM, Sochi 2014 will be making Olympic history at the Fisht Olympic Stadium, which is expected to be filled to its capacity of 40,000 spectators with billions more watching around the world, as everyone awaits if Russia can truly surpass the grandeur of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in China.  


The opening ceremony is expected to be a three-hour festival of music and electric lights ending with a grand fireworks display. A number of Russian classical music performers will be participating in the opening ceremony, along with 17-year-old American singer Danielle Bradebery, who will sing the Sochi 2014 theme song “My Day”. 

Seventeen-year old Filipino figure Michael Christian Martinez will be representing the Philippines in the traditional parade of athletes, marking the country’s return to the Olympic Winter Games after 22-year absence. Greece, where the Olympic originated, will be entering the stadium first and host nation, Russia, will round up the 88 nations of Sochi 2014.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach will be making his first Olympic speech while Russian president Vladimir Putin is set to declare the Sochi 2014 Olympics Winter Games open.

TV5, the Philippine Olympic network, will give a comprehensive coverage of the XXII Olympic Winter Games in the next sixteen days with athletes competing in 98 events.
