MCA Artists Nominated For Multiple Awards In The Upcoming MYX Music Awards

Last February 9, the annual MYX nominations night for the music awards was held at 12 Monkey Music Hall & Pub in Makati. Artists, musicians, and celebrities gathered around to show support and celebrate this glorious event for artists alike. Meanwhile MCA Music was already on a good spot with a roster that dominated the nominations night for being nominated in different categories.

Darren Espanto was the most nominated for being included in 5 categories. He’s nominated for the following categories; Favorite Music Video (Directed by Ian Galsim), Favorite Song for “Stuck”, Favorite Artist, Favorite Male Artist, and Favorite MYX Celebrity VJ. Next to Darren is The Voice Kids season 1 finalist, Juan Karlos Labajo who was nominated for Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Mellow Video for “Para Sa ‘Yo” (Directed by Frank Lloyd Mamaril), and Favorite MYX Celebrity VJ. Jason Dy the haranista heartthrob was nominated for Favorite New Artist. The veteran rockers Pupil is nominated for Favorite Rock Video for “Why” (Directed by Mike Talampas & Nick Santiago). Lastly on the local roster of MCA Music, rapper Ron Henley is nominated for Favorite Urban Video for “Langit” (Directed by Jasper Salimbangon).

MUSIC LYF: Gloc-9’s Myx Music Awards bodes well for mainstream Pinoy music

Gloc-9 won four major awards in the Myx Music Awards 2014 (MMA2014), the most for any artist who was nominated.

But what is more important about this win, is not so much the fact that Gloc-9 won in four out of six categories that he was nominated in, nor that he won four times more than any other artist.

It is that Gloc-9 won it for a song like “Magda.”

The idea of Magdalena is not new. The legend that is Freddie Aguilar introduced us to “Magdalena” in the early 1980’s, a folk song about the plight of a girl who was misunderstood because of the work she was forced into doing. In the Aguilar song, Magdalena is seen as “sawimpalad,” living a wretched life, where her story is one of choicelessness.

MYX Recognizes Parokya Ni Edgar As This Year's Magna Awardee

Every time that MYX mounts the Philippines’ biggest awards night in music, they select one mover and shaker of local music scene that they deem historically groundbreaking. This year’s music awards saw the recognition of a group that has brought a whole new, hilarious flavor to Philippine sound.

The award was given to a band that celebrated twenty years of friendship, humor, and good music—Parokya ni Edgar.

In true Parokya fashion, eight friends and pioneers of band members Chito Miranda, Buwi Meneses, Gab Chee Kee, Darius Semana, Dindin Moreno and Vinci Montaner gathered on stage around a plastic table and monobloc chairs to share a pitcher and snacks. Among those present at the table were Rico Blanco, Gloc-9, Miggy Chavez, Yeng Constantino, Barbie Almalbis, Gabby Alipe, Ebe Dancel, and Raimund Marasigan. They performed six renditions of Parokya ni Edgar’s famous songs, “Buloy”, “Harana”, “Pangarap Lang Kita”, “Halaga”, “The Yes Yes Show”, and “Inuman Na,” which aptly capped off the performance when the members of Parokya ni Edgar stepped on stage to accept the title.

Showbiz Music Fans Take The Stage At The Myx Music Awards

The past year saw walls being torn down in the local music scene, where songs and music videos went past what the Philippine audience is used to. When it comes to music, even borders between local television networks and record labels don’t seem to exist anymore.

This year, not only the country’s top bands and musicians who are nominated for different awards will be part of putting together the Philippines’ biggest awards night for music—even showbiz’s stars who are dedicated fans and followers of the local music scene will be taking on the stage to show their support at the MYX Music Awards this year.
