The Bootleg Beatles are back in Manila!

Since their inception in 1980 the band has performed hundreds of gigs across the globe, earning themselves an amazing reputation along the way. George Martin himself described the Bootleg Beatles experience as “A terrific show”, whilst the Mail On Sunday hailed their “Mind- boggling accuracy”.

Neil Harrison (former John Lennon); Andre Barreau (George Harrison) and David Catlin-Birch (Paul McCartney) met in 1979 when they were all cast in the hit West-End production, Beatlemania. When the show finished its run the band, knowing the repertoire inside out, decided to continue performing it and thus The Bootleg Beatles were born in 1980, along with the entire tribute genre.

It was a monumental time in music when the Beatles came and changed the world. Even after so many decades, the music still lives on with tributes bands like The Bootleg Beatles. Since they were established back in 1980, they have performed 4000 times and still continue to the 21st century. And now they will be playing again here in the Philippines this July in celebration of the 50th anniversary of only Beatles concert in the Philippines!

The 90's was indeed a decade of innovative and unforgettable music. With artists experimenting on pop, RnB, Hiphop etc., the music scene has grown so much that they still continue to influence us even up to today. And one of the most loved artists of that decade are All-4-One and Diana King. Good news is that they will be performing here in the Philippines at the Newport Performing Art Theater This October 28!

I remembered when I covered the Then and Now Concert 5 years ago where Diana King was one of the performers. The group comprises James Jones, Delious Kennedy, Alfred Nevarez, and Tony Borowiak, all fom the Antelope Valley in Mojave, California areas, but are based in Los Angeles Area. The group has sold 22 million records worldwide.

Get ready, Simpsonizers! Cody Simpson is finally coming to Manila as Wilbros Live brings in the multi-awarded Australian pop singer on August 12 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila.

The 18 year old singer-songwriter, dancer, and actor hailing from Queensland, Australia, landed a record deal on his 13th birthday, an indisputably remarkable feat. Simpson’s claim to fame was his debut single “iYiYi” released in 2009 which features American rapper, Flo Rida. Since then, the singer and awarded swimmer began touring with iconic pop figure, Justin Bieber. In 2013, Simpson’s album called “Surfers Paradise” debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard Top 200. In the same year, he commenced the Paradise Tour, presenting Before You Exit, Plug In Stereo, and Ryan Beatty as the opening acts. The brilliant performer infiltrated the world of dancing, as well—becoming a participant in the 18th season of Dancing With The Stars and landing a spot in the contest’s top 9.

No less than fashion couture extraordinaire Rajo Laurel sits on the designer’s chair for Resorts World Manila’s upcoming stage production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I on September 15, 2012, at the modern Newport Performing Arts Theater. 

Inspired by the timeless musical since his youth, Rajo claims that The King and I remains a personal favorite, claiming that as a child, he had been cast as one of the King’s children, as he shared the bill with current theatre greats Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, Raymond Lauchengco, and Lea Salonga. “I drew a lot of inspiration from the strong imprint The King and I had on me,” he reveals.  “It’s really an iconic play, and I wanted to stay true to that form, though I did inject my personal nuance of deep romanticism and my penchant for high drama,” Rajo adds pertaining to his designs for the highly-anticipated musical.
