BOY WRITES GIRL INTO LIFE IN “RUBY SPARKS”

Not your conventional boy-meets-girl  romantic story,  “Ruby Sparks” leads us to Calvin Weir-Fields, (played by Paul Dano who also appeared in “Little Miss Sunshine,” “There Will Be Blood”) a literary wunderkind with an acclaimed first novel.  But since then, he’s been stricken with a stubborn case of writer’s block magnified by a dismal love life.  In a last-ditch attempt to reignite his creative spark, Calvin begins to envision a female protagonist in his mind.  Then one morning she steps off the page and into his life.  Suddenly, Ruby (portrayed by Zoe Kazan who is also the film’s writer) is sleeping in Calvin’s bed, cooking in his kitchen, beguiling him in every way, with one mind-boggling twist:  he somehow has the power to change her every time he sits at his typewriter. As Calvin tries to juggle this power, he faces a major dilemma as a writer and a boyfriend: what will it take to make this relationship from his imagination work in the real world?

Resorts World Manila’s Third Theater Offering Promises The Splendor Of Design

No less than fashion couture extraordinaire Rajo Laurel sits on the designer’s chair for Resorts World Manila’s upcoming stage production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I on September 15, 2012, at the modern Newport Performing Arts Theater. 

Inspired by the timeless musical since his youth, Rajo claims that The King and I remains a personal favorite, claiming that as a child, he had been cast as one of the King’s children, as he shared the bill with current theatre greats Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, Raymond Lauchengco, and Lea Salonga. “I drew a lot of inspiration from the strong imprint The King and I had on me,” he reveals.  “It’s really an iconic play, and I wanted to stay true to that form, though I did inject my personal nuance of deep romanticism and my penchant for high drama,” Rajo adds pertaining to his designs for the highly-anticipated musical.

Mark Herras dons new hairdo, prepares for 'Luna Blanca' Book 3


Badboy of the Dance Floor Mark Herras arrived at the press conference of "Luna Blanca" on Tuesday sporting a new hairstyle.  The kapuso leading man will portray the 'older' version of Joaquin when the series premieres its third and last installment beginning September 10.  The younger Joaquin was portrayed by tween star Kristoffer Martin.


Mark said that his new hairstyle has nothing to do with his character in the series.

"Actually po bago ako nagpagupit ng ganito, sinabi ko po kay direk (Dominic Zapata) kung pwede po akong magpagupit ng ganito. Sabi naman po ni direk na OK lang pero siguro by the time na isu-shoot na ang first week na episodes, kailangan mejo tumubo na yung buhok ko sa gilid," he said.

REEL DEAL: Alex Cross SPOTLIGHT

Based on James Patterson’s best-selling novels (with over $3 billion in worldwide sales), “I, Alex Cross” will reboot the global franchise originated by the films “Kiss the Girls” and “Along Came a Spider”.  

Alex Cross (Tyler Perry) is a decorated detective, forensic psychologist and devoted family man.  Working with his long-time partner, Tommy Kane (Ed Burns), he catches a complicated quadruple murder case and begins to profile a killer whom he labels Picasso for the drawings he leaves at the scene.  Picasso (Matthew Fox) is a suave, highly skilled assassin who is targeting an elite list of executives all part of the corporate empire of Leon Jospin (Jean Reno).
  
After Cross successfully thwarts one of Picasso’s murder attempts, Picasso retaliates by targeting Cross’ family.  Now it’s personal as Cross blurs the lines of justice to pursue a killer no one can stop.  The film leads to a thrilling climax where Cross and Picasso face off in an intimate battle only one can win.  And in the end, a final twist reveals all was not as perceived to be and Cross is changed forever.

Originally slated for July 22 at the SM Mall of Asia, the run organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines (WWF-Philippines) was postponed due to Typhoon Ferdie. 

“We apologize for any inconvenience the postponement may have caused. Your safety is our top priority. The weather conditions compelled us to reschedule the fun run to another date and venue,” said Mayj Tolentino, WWF-Philippines’ Individual Donor Program Manager. 

WWF-Philippines is pleased to announce that the Reverse Run will take place at 5:00 AM on 9 September 2012 at the Venice Piazza Grounds, McKinley Hill, Taguig City! Race distances are 3K, 6K and 12K.

GMA Network is bringing back the well-loved family sitcom Pepito Manaloto to Filipino homes beginning September 16, Sunday night right after Imbestigador. Pepito Manaloto, Ang Tunay na Kuwento is different from the previous season. It is a stand alone show that follows the ordinary life of an ordinary person who was blessed with extraordinary luck.

This original family sitcom is top billed by Asian TV Best Comedy Actor recipient Michael V. as Pepito Manaloto. The show also stars Manilyn Reynes as Elsa Manaloto, Angel Satsumi as Clarissa Manaloto and Jake Vargas as Chito Manaloto.

CINEMALAYA 2012 AUDIENCE CHOICE WINNER “ANG NAWAWALA” BEGINS COMMERCIAL RUN SEPTEMBER 12

Director Marie Jamora’s Ang Nawawala enjoyed a successful run during this year’s Cinemalaya Film Festival, with positive word of mouth created by fans, receiving favorable reviews, and almost every screening selling out as a result. At the close of the festival the film took home two prizes: Best Original Musical Score for composers Mikey Amistoso, Diego Mapa, and Jazz Nicolas; and Audience Choice (New Breed), an award determined by votes from the Cinemalaya audience. No mean feat, considering this was the best-attended Cinemalaya yet, with a 12% increase in viewership over last year. Over the span of the festival the hashtag #AngNawawala was found to be trending on Twitter twice.

Beginning September 10, Kapuso prime actresses Bianca King and Heart Evangelista headline GMA Network's original drama, Luna Blanca, as they breathe life to the adult characters in the story's third generation.

As the series enters its third book, Bianca as the dark-skinned Luna and Heart as the fair-skinned Blanca will continue the journey of the twin sisters in discovering their ancestry and, at the same time, fulfilling their personal destinies.

In this generation, Luna and Blanca's relationship will be tested after being trapped in a love triangle with Joaquin, whose character will be portrayed by Mark Herras. The sisters are in love with the same man, but Joaquin is smitten with Blanca from the moment he laid eyes on her.
