MUSIC LYF: Gloc-9 rises with “Magda” from Liham at Lihim

We might say that Pinoy rap is going through a revival. What we must know is how different Gloc-9's kind of rap remains, regardless.
At the heart of Gloc-9's icon is the fact of his creativity. This is a rapper who dares writes songs from nation, trailing an eye on the things we fail to see, listening to words no one else hears.
If the first single off his new album Liham at Lihim is any indication, then Gloc-9 has again raised the bar for songwriting in general, Pinoy rap in particular.
A collaboration with rock icon Rico Blanco, “Magda” is Gloc-9's storytelling at its best. For one thing, he doesn't take on the persona of Magda; instead he speaks as Ernesto, telling the story of Magda – the little of it that he knows. For another, Magda's story doesn't unfold easily, where many things are left unsaid, and much of what is truth happens in a letter. This is also why Gloc-9 thinks “Magda” the best choice for a carrier single, given the CD's title.
But Magda's complexity, as Liham at Lihim suggests, is borne of the fact that she is trapped in what she does, and we cannot understand why. Gloc-9 doesn't insist that we understand it, but through Ernesto we are being made to see the sadness in this situation, the nostalgia for the past, the longing for better.

MUSIC LYF: Tunog Natin Songs From Home Album

After Three successful  Tunog Natin! OPM Concert Series, its now time to bring it to another level with its first compilation album: “Tunog Natin! Songs From Home”.
Tunog Natin! Songs From Home gathers 16 of the most promising and established Filipino artists in a compilation album that celebrates the beauty of our very own brand of music.

Presented by Avida Land Corp., the album is composed of 10 tracks of authentic OPM music—three original tracks and seven covers of timeless songs that Filipino love. The album will exclusively be available in Astrovision and Astroplus record stores nationwide as part of the Tunog Natin advocacy to revive audiences’ appreciation for OPM.

“Coming out with a new album is definitely a huge step towards promoting OPM. The success of the three concerts has paved way to this new venture,” says Tess Tatco, Avida Land Marketing Head.

“The enthusiastic response of audiences to the Tunog Natin concerts is nothing less than inspiring for us. We’ve always supported efforts to promote Filipino culture and Tunog Natin, both the concert series and the album, is one advocacy that we are proud to be a huge part of,” adds Tatco.

MUSIC LYF: Sari Saring Kwento MTV Behind the Scenes

The long wait is over, the collaboration that everyone is excited to see is now here and now out with their MTV. The collaboration of Champ Lui Pio (Hale/Mecca Music), Gloc 9, and Noel Cabangon form the beautiful song SARI-SARING KWENTO. And Music Lyf was there behind the scenes to meet the artists and also the production crew who worked long and hard to give a great video to the compelling song.

MUSIC LYF: Gloc 9

I got the chance to meet one my favorite artist in the music industry in terms of rapping. He is considered a protege with his skills in composing and rapping which some (and I) also consider the faster rapper in the country. With popular songs like Walang Natira, Upuan, Elmer, Lando, Simpleng Tao, and many songs collaborated with the celebrated musicians in the industry.  He is a legend in the making, GLOC 9!
