"Black Panther" Rules at No.1 with P258.57-M in 5 Days

The Lunar Year of the Dog? For now it's more like a strong Year of the Panther, as Marvel Studios' Black Panther lunged and clawed its victorious way to Philippine cinemas, posting a monumental opening weekend of Php 258.57-M (including sneaks) in five days (Feb 14 – 18).

With that smash figure, Filipino Marvel fans gave Black Panther the most successful February launch in industry history as well as the year's biggest opening weekend to-date.

Black Panther - It's Time For Wakanda

Heroes has been dominated mostly by Americans and Europeans, but when it comes for Africans, we barely see them in the spotlight. Now that more heroes are revealed under the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is time for Black Panther to leap into cinemas this month.

Black Panther was formally introduced to the MCU with Captain America: Civil War as part of Team Iron Man. And with positive reception from the audience, it was expected that the standalone film will be a hit as well. Of course, being part of a (fictional) country with international affairs would mean being political and power struggle will be present.

"Black Panther" Breaks Record for Year's Biggest 1st-Day Gross in PH

Marvel Studios' Black Panther opened Wednesday, Feb 14 in the Philippines and scored the year's biggest first-day gross to-date with a staggering P45.10-M in box-office sales.

Comparatively, the Wakandan King outperformed the opening day numbers of recent Marvel titles, including 2015's Ant-Man (by 235%), 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy (by 183%), 2016's Doctor Strange (by 124%), 2014's Captain America: The Winter Solidier (by 63%) and last year's Thor: Ragnarok (by 41%).

"Black Panther" Leaps from Page to Screen in New Featurette

Watch Black Panther go from comic book to the big screen in an all-new special featurette that's just been launched by Marvel Studios.

The video shows producer Kevin Feige explaining what makes the title character such an enchanting and exciting figure, along with director Ryan Coogler and star Chadwick Boseman sharing their take on the comic book creation of Jack Kirby and Stan Lee.

REEL DEAL: Captain America Civil War

Another clash movie of the year is the awaited movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe of 2016, Captain America: Civil War puts all heroes into the big screen not fighting bad guys but each other. As ironic it may sound, it does seems inevitable that they would not always be on the same boat.

Known to be one of the biggest clashes in the Marvel universe, Civil War is really literal. There was sides chosen upon the presentation of an accord that leaves them with a choice of following the directive of many nations or free to act upon the need to help. But we all know it is a complicated world with all the politics, policies, and amplified with the possible threats that their abilities can inflict to humanity.

This defines the line of "Captain America" which like the US is always politically connected with the current threats of society like terrorism and espionage. As some would see it as another Avengers movie with the introduction of Spider-Man, Ant Man, and Black Panter, it never forgets that it is Cap's movie.

With many conspiracies, secrets, needs to be established, there would be a longer time of dialogues and word wars more than the actual fight scenes. Many would find it boring, but I think they are really needed to further understand what is going on.

Ryan Coogler to Direct Marvel's "Black Panther"‏

It’s official: Ryan Coogler (“Creed,” “Fruitvale Station”) will step up to direct Marvel’s “Black Panther.”

Chadwick Boseman will star in “Black Panther” after debuting as the character in the upcoming Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War,” in Philippine cinemas on April 27, 2016.

“We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family,” said producer Kevin Feige. “The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct ‘Black Panther.’ Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.”
