Makati Skyscrapers -Newest MPBL Team To Watch Out For

From the newest basketball association in the Philippines, the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) is still in pursuit of gathering more teams from all over the country to be come a legitimate national competition for the Philippines. Though they have already launched their first tournament with the Rajah Cup which ended recently, there is now the Datu Cup which introduces more teams joining making the games more exciting.

And to debut in this tournament are the Makati Skyscrapers, hailing from the financial capital of the country shows that the city is not just all work and no play.  Brought together by team owners Paolo Orbeta and Paolo Pineda, and team manager Martin Arenas, the team became officially part of the MPBL last April 10, 2018.

Being a new team in the League, their goal is to make it to the championship, even going against powerhouse teams like Batangas City Athletics and the Muntinlupa Cagers who were the finalist of the 2018 MPBL Rajah Cup.

Forming the team involved having try-outs to discover basketball talents of Makatizens (Makati's new term for their citizens), and eventually filtering them until the ideal number of players is set for the Skyscrapers. The city government of Makati showed it support to the team by providing them with transportation via the city buses. Their home court is set to be the Makati Coliseum, however since it is undergoing renovation, they are currently practicing at the Colegio San Agustin Basketball court.

The Datu Cup kicked-off on June 12 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, with games will have  broadcasts on ABS-CBN Sports and Action Channel.
