MUSIC LYF: MATCHBOX TWENTY Lights Up Manila Stage on November 8

Anyone who grew up in the ‘90s would attest that it was the best decade ever. From the unique catchphrases (“As if”, “Whatever”, “Wassup”) to the grunge fashion statements, from epic films to memorable sitcoms, from the birth of the Walkman® to the most defining moments of ‘90s music --- hands down as it had witnessed the rise of some of the most incredible bands and artists of all time.

This November 8th, be ready to be taken back to the glory years of the ‘90s as popular American pop rock group Matchbox Twenty lights up the stage of the Mall of Asia Arena with nothing but their greatest and most unforgettable hits.

Rob Thomas, Paul Doucette, Kyle Cook and Brian Yale collectively known as Matchbox Twenty brought us smash hits such as “Push”, “Bent,” “Unwell”, “If You’re Gone” and “Smooth”. Part of their tour repertoire is from their latest North album which includes the singles “Our Song”, “Put Your Hands Up” and “She’s So Mean.”

MUSIC LYF: Union J

IS there room for another boyband? 900,000 Twitter followers certainly think so.

Like some of their pop counterparts, Union-J were brought together by the X-Factor. Jaymi Hensley, Josh Cuthbert, and JJ Hamblett were Triple J before the show made the brilliant decision to add George Shelley, giving us Union J. They proved to the UK whilst being on the show they have the aesthetics and attributes of a boy band – but now it’s time for them to start being one.

Since reaching X-Factor's semi-finals, it has been non-stop for the boys. Two months away from releasing their debut single, the hype for them is evident as they’ve just signed a major book deal with Penguin. But little more than a year ago, their lives were all very different.

Jamie ‘JJ’ Hamblett's lifelong ambition was always to be a jockey before his path took a different turn. He used to spend his days grooming and riding horses near his home in Newmarket before his big break. "It was a very different life,” admitted JJ. "I got up about 6.30am, went straight to the horses and out riding on the heath. I’ve always been brought up around horses and never knew anything else until now.

LISTENING ROOM: Kris Lawrence - Spread The Love REVIEW

It has been a while since we he heard of a OPM  RNB album that will venture into a pop-driven music industry. But its about time for Kris Lawrence to launch his new album "Spread The Love" under GMA Records.

Despite waiting for 4 years, it's exciting  to finally hear him as he brings together quality and original songs that will start his reign as the new "Prince of RNB" given to him by his buddy and now "King of Pinoy RNB", Jay-R.

Now let's look into the tracks of the album:

Nightmare - a track, Kris mentioned that was meant to be used by Justin Bieber, is now his own and with Elmo Magalona joining him for the track proves he can be a  international artist.

Tell Me - The feel is very 90's that brings one into a nostalgia trip. This type of song is one of  Kris Lawrence's specialty.

Ikaw Pala- the Philippine OST of the Korean series "The Innocent Man", is deserving to be used for TV. I wish he would do more TV series soundtrack.

MUSIC LYF: Gloc-9 rises with “Magda” from Liham at Lihim

We might say that Pinoy rap is going through a revival. What we must know is how different Gloc-9's kind of rap remains, regardless.
At the heart of Gloc-9's icon is the fact of his creativity. This is a rapper who dares writes songs from nation, trailing an eye on the things we fail to see, listening to words no one else hears.
If the first single off his new album Liham at Lihim is any indication, then Gloc-9 has again raised the bar for songwriting in general, Pinoy rap in particular.
A collaboration with rock icon Rico Blanco, “Magda” is Gloc-9's storytelling at its best. For one thing, he doesn't take on the persona of Magda; instead he speaks as Ernesto, telling the story of Magda – the little of it that he knows. For another, Magda's story doesn't unfold easily, where many things are left unsaid, and much of what is truth happens in a letter. This is also why Gloc-9 thinks “Magda” the best choice for a carrier single, given the CD's title.
But Magda's complexity, as Liham at Lihim suggests, is borne of the fact that she is trapped in what she does, and we cannot understand why. Gloc-9 doesn't insist that we understand it, but through Ernesto we are being made to see the sadness in this situation, the nostalgia for the past, the longing for better.

MUSIC LYF: Kanye West - Yeezus (Album)

I'mma let you finish reading this but let me tell you the rave reviews for Kanye West from prestigious news magazines in print and online which is also just in time for their new baby girl, North West, with Kim Kardashian. So is he the best in the world?

ROLLING STONE: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/albumreviews/yeezus-20130614

“Yeezus is the darkest, most extreme music Kanye has ever cooked up, an extravagantly abrasive album full of grinding electro, pummeling minimalist hip-hop, drone-y wooz and industrial gear-grind. Every mad genius has to make a record like this at least once in his career… Being a work of Kanye West, Yeezus is also a brilliant, obsessive-compulsive career auto-correct… This isn't just a way to stay ahead of the competition; it's a way to stay ahead of him.” – Jon Dolan / 4.5 Stars
