Filipino band of Mercury rides the soul train with ease in new single “That’s Why”

The track pays tribute to the bygone era of Motown, classic R&B, and funk while giving it a more contemporary feel

Filipino alternative pop/soul trio of Mercury introduces a fresh and exhilarating era with the release of their new single “That’s Why”—out today via Sony Music Entertainment.

Updating their sonic direction with bits and pieces of retro-soul, Motown, and ‘70s funk, the band pays tribute to the sounds of a bygone era while taking listeners on a luscious blast of timeless grooves and smooth-talking.

“In terms of direction, we think that we’re in a phase where we want to try out new things and discover what else we can pull off together, regardless if the sound is different from the other previous releases we had. And we’re enjoying having to flow around wherever we go,” shares the multi-faceted, genre-blurring band. “That’s the essence of what of Mercury really is, just like the liquid element.”

Killers of the Flower Moon - A Battle of Greed and Love

The amazing partnership of Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio plus Robert De Niro continues to bring another movie masterpiece called "Killers of the Flower Moonwhich I can say one of the best films this year. It also features Lily Gladstone, which I can say did an incredible performance and stole the show. It also stars Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, John Lithgow, and Brendan Fraser in supporting roles.

Killers of the Flower Moon centers on the story of the Osage Count Indian murders in the 1920s, which is rooted on the greed that targets the Osage Native Americans who became wealthy because of their oil-rich lands. A story which became a sensation during its time which also reflects the plight and struggles of Native Americans today.

Though it comes at a surprising length of over three hours, I have some hesitation that I can keep my focus and bladder for the whole duration. But it its very recommended to have an empty bladder as every scene has significance and paced appropriately.

Monster (怪物) - Finding The Unknown Things

When talking about Japanese monsters in general, we know them as bakemono (化け物), but there is also another term for monsters which is kaibutsu (怪物). Which makes me wonder about this 2023 film which also had its premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival.

Starring Sakura Andō, Eita Nagayama, Soya Kurokawa, Hinata Hiiragi, and Yūko Tanaka, initially it feels like a thriller or horror film because of its trailer. But I guess it was intended to redirect the expectation for the storyline which has a very interesting twist.

Initially, the story tells the complicated relationship between mother and child, classmates and their teacher, the school and back to their families. The problems arose with the changes in Minato (Sōya Kurokawa) was noticed by his mother, Saori (Sakura Andō) and this prompted her to investigate the involvement of his teacher Hori (Eita Nagayama) and classmate Hoshikawa (Hinata Hiiragi). Things gets more complicated as more secrets and atrocities are revealed.

Cobweb - How Hard Making A Movie Is

Many of us still don't fathom how complicated movie making is. We usually know that the director has the most influence and authority in creating the film and all the elements that come with it. But it becomes more clearer with the film by Kim Jee-woon called Cobweb ( 거미집). It is a black comedy film starring Song Kang-ho (from the movie Parasite), Im Soo-jung (A Tale of Two Sisters), Oh Jung-se (It's Okay Not To Be Okay), Jeon Yeo-been (Vincenzo), and Krystal Jung (The Heirs).

Set in the 70's, the story is about a director named Kim Yeol who makes last minute changes to the film named "Cobweb" to make it into a masterpiece. To do this, they have to persuade the production company and their chairperson as shooting has concluded. But Kim was able to get support and the re shoots will be commenced.

This is where it the chaos starts, little by little problems and secrets are exposed which opens up a lot of problems in the production. The actors have issues with one another, the censors and authorities want to shut production down, and more secrets in the real-life production adds to the drama of the shoot.
