Addressing Dementia: Why Early Action and Everyday Brain Care Matter

LAC Philippines Highlights Holistic Brain Health Support for Filipinos

Dementia affects over 57 million people worldwide, with nearly 10 million new cases each year.   This is the seventh leading cause of death and a major driver of disability among older adults. Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia, accounts for 60 to 70% of these cases.

In the Philippines, the burden extends beyond patients to entire families, as care remains largely home-based due to limited formal services. This is especially challenging for women, who not only face higher rates of disability and mortality, but also shoulder most caregiving duties.

A proposed measure in the House of Representatives — the Philippine Dementia and Alzheimer Care Policy (House Bill No. 185) — seeks to change this by establishing a national program for early detection, treatment, and support for patients and caregivers. As the bill advances in Congress and World Alzheimer’s Day approaches this September, LAC Philippines highlights the urgent need for accessible brain health solutions that help protect cognitive function and preserve quality of life.

Come now, to corruption! Catch Kim Woo-bin & Suzy in Genie, Make a Wish this October 3!

Genie, Make a Wish is written by Kim Eun-sook (The Glory) and tells the enchanting story of Jinn (Kim Woo-bin), a genie who awakens after a thousand years, and Ka-young (Suzy), his new impassive master. The show blends romantic comedy around their conflicts over three wishes, which sets the stage for a magical twist of destiny, desire, and of course – love.

Genie, Make a Wish is coming October 3, only on Netflix.

ABOUT GENIE, MAKE A WISH

Genie, Make a Wish follows the story of Genie — a magic spirit in a lamp who has come back to the human world after a millennium of his career being put on hold — encounters Ka-young, an impassive woman who goes through the motions of life by her grandmother’s rules and her own routines.

Kim Woo-bin (Officer Black Belt, Black Knight) portrays Genie. Unlike the kind Genie everyone is familiar with, he is a Satan who tempts and corrupts humans with three wishes. However, he's not just any Satan—he's an eccentric character who has awakened after a thousand years and is naive about the world.

Acclaimed director Darren Aronofsky is widely known for his dark dramas, like Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan. In Caught Stealing, Aronofsky presents a change in pace by making a movie that is “first and foremost fun—a movie that for two hours would fully distract and hold your attention, and while you’re at the theater, you have a great time.”

Aronofsky has been interested in working on the project for years, with the novel of the same name by Charlie Huston being the inspiration.  “I was so entertained and pumped by the book when I first read it 18 years ago,” he says. “Then a bunch of time passed, and Charlie tracked me down with an email out of the blue—they now controlled the book and had written a screenplay.”
