REEL DEAL: Pwera Usog REVIEW

This year could be the new era  Pinoy Horror films as new faces and technologies have come to bring to life stories of fear and mysticism. Regal Entertainment introduces their summer scare film with PWERA USOG which is written and directed by John Paul Laxamana (Love is Blind, Mercury is Mine). This latest Regal film features a leading cast composed of fresh faces like Sofia Andres, Joseph Marco, Kiko Estrada and Devon Seron.

As the title suggests, it deals with the supernatural belief of "Usog" which still lingers in modern times yet still prominent in provinces. Integrating it to the lives of the millenial generation is quite a challenge along with other elements which will make the story entertaining yet pleasing to movie goers.

Pwera Usog takes the "superstition" to a new twist with some details of the origin also revealed to help the viewers not familiar with the curse. I have to say that the young cast played their roles well, particularly Joseph for his comedic timing, and Devon for the emotions she shown as Luna. They actually played well with veteran actresses like Aiko Melendez and Eula Valdez who played key characters.

Spiritual-Political Film DIYOS-DIYOSAN Just In Time For Elections

Movies are still a source of interesting movies that tackles the problems of the nation beyond the Rom-Coms and heavy drama. And with elections as the biggest event of the year, the role of movies to provide as thinking catalyst is needed to provoke the nation to reconsider our choices.

Inspired by the political realities, Christian film director Cesar Buendia (Pag-asa ng Bayan, Padre de Pamilya and Agawan Base) came up with the story of  "dIYOS-DIYOSAn" 4 years ago which was also an election year. Though the filiming was completed recently, it came into a perfect time for the presidential election which is more intense and pivoting for the future of the country.

DIYOS-DIYOSAN: A Timely Movie On Pinoy Faith And Politics

DIYOS-DIYOSAN is a socio-political/spiritual treatise that highlights the roots of the country’s current political struggles and economic hardships—the focus on money and power by its leaders.

The film seeks to open the eyes of Filipino millennials to the realities of what a true leader should be, and is expected to be a media catalyst for the large percentage of undecided voters.
