Misa De Gallo Diaries - Day 2 - SIMPLICITY

First Reading: Genesis 49:2, 8-10
Psalm: Psalm 72:1-4, 7-8, 17
Gospel: Matthew 1:1-17

Simbang Gabi may seem to be an easy task of going to church for 9 consecutive days and hopefully your wish will be granted. But the essence of the novena masses are far more than the hot bibingka and puto bungbong. The celebration is indeed agreat anticipation of the arrival of Jesus as a human being and was the best gift the world it ever had. Today's Misa De Gallo theme is SIMPLICITY.

I think that this word may  be endangered or probably extinct due to the many material things around us especially in terms of technology is concerned. On the second day, I was at the mall with my friend Mark to cover an event at SM Megamall. Also a chance for him to check out a new phone. After the Musical I covered we went to several shop to check on gifts especially for his fiance. We were able to find a nice watch which I is the best buy and also of great design. After this, I suggested that we attend the simbang gabi at the Chapel of the Eucharistic Lord in the 5th floor.

SIMPLICITY

I have been a regular of this chapel as it also serves as my wifi place through the years, however, this is also my first time to attend a simbang gabi mass here which made me excited. Father Dave, a regular priest of the community presided the mass which I know gives a great an meaningful sermon.

He pointed out three things:

  • Avoid overspending
  • Avoid overeating
  • Avoid Sin (of the flesh)

With these we both realized that indeed Christmas is a call for SIMPLICITY, to be humble in the midst of the things around us. Mark was amazed with Father Dave's sermon, which I did agree and also recalled many reflections I had which were life changers. Though the chapel is surrounded by many shops one will indulge this season, this was a great reminder that Jesus himself, the son of God, was born in a stable with the animals and no inn would take him in.

The mass ended with a small presentation from the seminarians who led the choir for that night. I definitely won't miss the chance to document it and here are the videos:

Day 2 was a blessing in disguise and was not really part of the plan. But this gives it the adventure factor plus more. Day two done, seven days to go...
