The great music of the APO Hiking Society already is a legend in OPM which has been venerated by many artists and even made a tribute album with popular artists and bands making their own rendition of the songs. Now we sometimes ask ourselves, why not make it a musical? That is what critically-acclaimed writer-director Chris Martinez have weaved together the timeless songs of APO into one musical movie of the year, I DO BIDOO BIDOO Heto nAPO sila.
Giving a whole new light with the songs of many generations that still popular even up to today, the film brings together a powerhouse cast that are perfect for each role. It stars, Sam Concepcion (Rock Polotan) and Tippy Dos Santos (in her first major movie role as Tracy Fuentebella) as the lovely couple who plans to get married and goes into the traditional pamamanhikan stage. Tracy's parents, the Fuentebellas are Gary Valenciano (Nic Fuentebella) and Zsazsa Padilla (Ellaine Fuentebella), while Rock's parents are Ogie Alcasid Pol Polotan) and Eugene Domingo (Rosie Polotan) which gives a whole lot of riot and touching moments in the film.
Other cast include Jaime Fabregas, Rubi Rubi, Neil Coleta as Brent, Rock's best friend, Frenchie Dy, Kiray Celis as Jazzy Polotan, Sweet Plantado, Gerald Pesigan as Raprap Polotan. The film got an "A" rating from the Cinema Evaluation Board. Also highly recommended by the press who has seen this on the advance screening.
Indeed its about time that we make movie musicals as a tribute to our OPM artists like the APO Hiking society which have influenced a lot of artists of this generation. It is truly a very entertaining film with a lot of songs and dance numbers. It also brings to life the Filipino love and marriage traditions with a clash of societies that gives the movie a very interesting plot.
With someone like newcomer Tippy Dos Santos makes a great chemistry with Sam Concepcion as they were also part of the theater play of Peter Pan recently. I also saw a different Eugene Domingo in terms of drama in this film which made me love her even more. Its also great to see Zsazsa doing great acting here though still under treatment and the loss of Mang Dolphy. With Ogie and Gary V together makes the experience complete as if it is a real concert experience.
I DO BIDOO BIDO HETO NAPO SILA is brought to you by Unitel Production and Studio5. Now showing this August 29, 2012.
Deliberation time kids!
