After experiencing how intricate it is to create Chinese Paintings, we got another chance to talk and experience the art and stories behind the work of the Chan Lim family and their students. Beyond the brushstrokes, there are actually more than a thousand moments and emotions in each of the art made on plates, scrolls and oil paintings.
Meeting he masters which came from the Chan Lim clan shows that talent runs in the family whatever career they would choose. The Chan Lim legacy continues with the third generation growing and shows full support with the family affair which also brings new students to their studio.
With their exhibit which comes just in time for the lunar new year that runs until February 12 at The Block SM North EDSA, it trully brings shoppers together to appreciate art as well as to connect with our Chinese roots. With a aesthetically impressive set up, it provides the charisma for people to take refuge and look at the works.
For our tour, we had Dr. Alex Chan Lim, who also taught us about Chinese Painting, who is also an engineer, shared the stories with the artworks made by his family. One of the large painting on a scroll was made by all of the family members which consists of 13 members, and each gave a unique contribution to the nature-inspired artwork.
Plates are quite a challenge to paint, and with their surface that can resist paint, smudge and discoloration can happen to them. Luckily, with a spray of a sealant can bind the art into the plates which brought a new life for these mediums. Oil Painting is also one of the main highlights of the exhibit which the Patriarch, Jose Chan Lim made in his early days.
