Everything is bigger in “Meg 2: The Trench”, say filmmakers

For director Ben Wheatley, the goal for “Meg 2: The Trench” was simple: “Taking ‘The Meg’ and supercharging it – bigger creatures, bigger action, bigger monsters, bigger environments, bigger equipment – the whole thing. Bigger.”

The cast also got a very welcome addition that helped supersize its cast – global action icon Wu Jing, star of five of the 10 highest-grossing films in China. “To be honest, I’ve always been terrified of monster films,” says Jing. “You can ask me to jump off a high-rise building, and I think that’s easier for me – but fighting a fictitious monster? That is something very hard for me.”

Jason Statham always keen to do his own stunts in “Meg 2: The Trench”, says director

Action star Jason Statham loves stunt work.

According to Ben Wheatley, director of “Meg 2: The Trench,” Statham is always keen to do as many of his own stunts as possible. Anytime the actor is seen powering a jet ski through the water, that is indeed Statham. Wheatley offers, “Because the physics of a face are hard to fake – you have to be upside down to really look like you are upside down – we had Jason on this kind of giant hand drill setup, and we’d pull the trigger and spin him around, firing water at his face. He wanted as few gimbal shots as possible, almost all of it is him – obviously not jumping a giant wave, but him riding a jet ski very, very quickly. And scarily, we were all at the monitors, saying, “Please come back all right!””

Johnson, Statham Collide in "Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw"

Although Fast fans already know Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, director David Leitch wanted to re-introduce them on their own terms and establish their lives away from the rest of the Fast team. The first scene in Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw hilariously contrasts Hobbs’ laid-back life in California with Shaw’s extravagant life in London, using a split screen to highlight just how opposite these two heroes are.

“The opening sequence is really clever and is one of my favorite little moments of the movie,” Jason Statham says. “It’s spot-on because Hobbs and Shaw are so different yet so similar. I think it’s a tightrope that Dave walks rather well throughout the film.”

The Meg - Another Shark Movie?

Before we dig into deep waters, let us acknowledge that sharks species are threatened by poaching and other human activities, and shark attacks are more rare than we thought. Now let's talk about The Meg, a shortened version of Megalodion  or prehistoric shark which is making havoc in Asian waters.

Led by Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, and Ruby Rose, the race for undersea discoveries led a research team to encounter the biggest shark of the modern ear. Though a real live Megalodion was never seen by humans, evidence from fossils and teeth were the proof that this creature becomes the top of the food chain.

With shark classics like "Jaws" and the most recent "The Shallows" made sharks the fish to be feared in the seas, They fall short to the size and impact of the Meg and what damage it can do even with large boats and structures. People look like pellets for it to be munched.

Though it tries to be relevant and consistent with shark flicks with a lot of chomping on things, humans, animals, etc., It still has the formulaic storytelling in a different setting. The only redeeming factor is the technology used in the film which some are existent today. The cast are diverse in race and characteristics but it gravitated to a more comedic approach rather than a thriller film.

"The Meg" Devours P63.4-M in 5 Days, Opens at No.1 in PH

Warner Bros. Pictures’ giant shark thriller “The Meg” took the biggest bite off the Philippine box office this weekend to open at No.1.

The Jason Statham actioner grossed a splashy P63.4-million for the five-day opening weekend (Aug. 8 to 12) in only 274 screens, becoming Warner’s best opener for the year todate after “Rampage” (P59.7-M) and “Tomb Raider” (P57.6-M).

It's Jason Statham Vs. "The Meg" in Epic Monster Shark Thriller

In Warner Bros. Pictures’ new pulse-pounding action thriller “The Meg,” only three people have ever attempted an ocean rescue below 10,000 meters.  But only one is still alive to tell the tale: Jonas Taylor.

Global action star Jason Statham plays Jonas Taylor in the sci-fi spectacle. “I think this is the ultimate popcorn film,” he says.  “It gives you what people go to the cinema for: entertainment, suspense, action, and even a few laughs—all of the things audiences want from a big moviegoing experience.”

"The Meg" Chomps Its Way to New Trailer

Warner Bros. Pictures has unveiled the new international trailer for its sci-fi action thriller “The Meg” from director Jon Turteltaub and starring Jason Statham.

In the film, a deep-sea submersible—part of an international undersea observation program—has been attacked by a massive creature, previously thought to be extinct, and now lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest trench in the Pacific…with its crew trapped inside.  With time running out, expert deep sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) is recruited by a visionary Chinese oceanographer (Winston Chao), against the wishes of his daughter Suyin (Li Bingbing), to save the crew—and the ocean itself—from this unstoppable threat: a pre-historic 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon.  What no one could have imagined is that, years before, Taylor had encountered this same terrifying creature.  Now, teamed with Suyin, he must confront his fears and risk his own life to save everyone trapped below…bringing him face to face once more with the greatest and largest predator of all time.

REEL DEAL: Rose Byrne Plays Comical Frenemy In “SPY”

Rose Byrne struts her way into a global chase against a group of undercover agents in “Spy” starring alongside Melissa McCarthy, Jason Statham and Jude Law.

Byrne takes on the role of Rayna, a beautiful and privileged Oxford-educated daughter of a recently deceased arms dealer who becomes frenemies with Susan Cooper, a novice spy who gears up for action after Fine (Law) suddenly goes off the grid during a dangerous assignment. Agent Cooper leaves her dreary desk job behind, entering the world of international espionage in Europe.  Soon, Rayna and Susan butt heads when Rayna has come into possession of an unusual inheritance, a small tactical nuclear weapon enough to give the world a total meltdown.

Rose Byrne says her character is all about status. Rayna wears garish outfits for grand entrances into the finest hotels. Perpetually bored and unimpressed, she lacks a sense of humor and has a brutally direct manner of speaking.    “I liken her to royalty, or a member of a corrupt dynasty. She’s posh and talks as if she’s from another era, an effort to compensate for her poor Bulgarian roots.”  Despite her coldness, Rayna feels slightly sympathetic and curious about Susan, who reminds her of a “sad Bulgarian clown.”

REEL DEAL: Melissa McCarthy's Full-Action Mode In "SPY"

Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy have already collaborated in the smash hit comedies: “Bridesmaids” and “The Heat.” In “Spy,” which Feig wrote and directed, the gifted actress plays the brilliant, intuitive and relatable Susan Cooper, who has worked in the dreary basement at CIA headquarters for years. Her colleague is the charming, sophisticated and self-absorbed super spy Bradley Fine, played by Jude Law. An unsung hero, Cooper is the one who guides her partner via a computer and an earpiece, when he is out on perilous assignments, steering him through sticky situations around the globe. Fine gets the credit for all the successes, but it is actually Cooper doing most of the complicated work. She is also secretly besotted with the charismatic Fine, but it’s a case of unrequited love.

REEL DEAL: Furious 7 REVIEW

I'm excited when after Fast 6 is that they will have Furious 7 which we wanted to be filmed here in the Philippines when they went here for the Asian premiere. Unfortunately Paul Walker got into a car accident during a fund raising event for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. A gesture that touched his fans here and made his name immortal with his role. Now with Fast and Furious 7 shows here, it will be the last time we will see him and many are curious how his last ride will be.

And it was indeed another festival of cars, lots of them. And in the tradition of the series, it will involve explosions, crashes, races, and technology. Coming for the crew is the "big bad brother" Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) who is after revenge for his fallen brother, Owen Shaw. There is another dilemma with the involvement of another terror group after a highly valued hostage.

The value of family beyond friendship still persist as the driving motivation for the gang with the demise of Han in Tokyo, they become the hunted with lives on the line. Ronda Rousney also makes an on screen debut with what she does best, fighting. It was pretty emotional with the tribute for Paul brought tears to everyone's eyes including mine.

Furious 7 is now showing in cinemas. Distributed by United International Pictures.

Deliberation time kids!

REEL DEAL: Jason Statham Take Over As Main Villain In “FAST & FURIOUS 7”

British actor Jason Statham best known for his hard-hitting action films (“Transporter,” “Crank”) takes over as the new formidable villain in Universal Pictures' “Fast & Furious 7.”

In the Fast tradition of baddies, Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) had been the most impressive rival the crew had come up against. However, with one lethal move against Han (Sung Kang), Statham’s Deckard Shaw eclipses his brother with an endgame even more personal: to take Dom (Vin Diesel) and the crew down, one by one.
