LAKBAYAN: SEAIR flies to Laoag, offers PHP 599 promo

Southeast Asian Airlines, Inc. (SEAIR), in partnership with Tiger Airways, recently announced that it will start flying to its newest destination, Laoag, on April 4, 2013. Flights will originate from the Manila Domestic Airport or Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 4.

SEAIR is offering introductory fares to Laoag at PHP 599 for travel on April 4 to August 31, 2013. Passengers must book their tickets via www.tigerairways.com to avail of the special rates until February 21, 2013.

The northernmost city of Laoag is the capital of Ilocos Norte. Laoag means “light” in Ilocano and the city is nicknamed “Sunshine City” for its year-round sunny weather. Laoag has an interesting mix of tradition and modernity, reflecting Spanish and Ilocano heritage. Kalesas or horse carriages still cruise the streets of downtown Laoag, bustling as it is with numerous business establishments, as the city is also the center of trade and commerce in the region. For history buffs, must-see sites include the Museo Ilocos Norte, which houses prehistoric tools that were used for hunting and fishing by early settlers, and the Sinking Bell Tower of St. William’s Cathedral, the largest and tallest in the country at 45 meters. DepEd releases kinder assessment tool to respond to learning needs

The Department of Education has issued the guidelines in assessing the year-end school readiness of kindergarten to check on their pre-schooling progress with the end-view of providing them with specific learning intervention.

Kindergarten education has been made mandatory in public schools in 2011 by virtue of Republic Act 10157. To assess the performance level of all kinder pupils DepEd came up with School Readiness Year-end Assessment (SReYA).

Rivermaya releases single after four years

Iconic and multi-platinum-selling band Rivermaya releases their much-awaited single Pilipinas, Kailan Ka Magigising?This single is the band’s first single in four years.

Pilipinas, Kailan Ka Magigising, penned by founding Rivermaya member Mark Escueta, is reminder to everyone to go against crab mentality, and selfishness, especially now that another elections is within the horizon once again.

When asked how the single was chosen among the tracks recorded for the forthcoming Panatang Makabanda album, drummer-turned-guitarist Mark quips, “In the early stages of recording, this song became the initial favorite of the group. Sheena Halili happy to be single on Valentine’s Day

For most people, February 14 is Valentine’s Day but for singles like Sheena Halili, it’s just another ordinary Thursday.  

The kapuso actress and cast member of the GMA primetime fantasy series, “Indio,” says she doesn’t really mind if she has no romantic date on Valentine’s Day since she has been single -- she claims -- for several years now.

“Sa totoo lang, hindi naman sa nagmamayabang ako, pero meron naman diyang umaaligid na puwede naman, may mga nagpaparamdam naman diyan, hindi naman siguro masamang may nag-aadmire sa’yo.  Pero siyempre pinagdarasal ko kay God kasi sobrang gina-guard ko ang heart ko.  Gusto ko sana na kapag nakipag-relasyon ako sana ‘yun na.  Ayoko kasi yung paiba-iba.  I mean, kaniya-kaniya naman tayo ng desire diba?  Yung desire talaga ng puso ko ay i-guard ko na lang ang puso, maghintay na lang ako ng right timing ni God, sa right person na ibibigay sa akin ni God,” she explained.

DepEd releases guidelines for 2013 Graduation Rites

As the school year nears its end and graduation season is fast approaching the Department of Education, in line with its reform agenda, released the 2013 Graduation Rites with the theme “Building the Nation’s Future Leaders Through the K to 12 Basic Education Program”. Graduation rites should be scheduled either on the 18th or 19th of March.  

On the other hand, DepEd is still implementing its policy when it comes to preparing for this ceremonial event. Guidelines such as the “No Collection” of graduation fees and enforcing students to submit non-academic projects as requirement to graduate is strictly prohibited. Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC said that the rites itself should be an affair that includes civic duties, sense of community and personal responsibilities and should be memorable and exciting without extravagant splurges.
