Avicii New Smashing Hit SIngle "Wake Me Up"

Avicii – the superstar producer/DJ behind dance floor favorites such as “Fade Into Darkness”, “Seek Bromance” and, of course, the ubiquitous smash hit “Levels” – is at it again. His newest release “Wake Me Up!”, which serves as the lead single from his forthcoming debut studio album #TRUE, is destined to seize the attention of music-lovers and club-goers the world over.

“Wake Me Up!” represents a new stylistic direction for Avicii. Featuring a bluegrass-style guitar riff, syncopated handclaps, and country-inflected vocals by Aloe Blacc, the song exemplifies Avicii’s innovative and experimental blending of house music with acoustic instruments and seemingly unrelated musical genres. The result is an irresistible and incredibly stimulating dance track that lies comfortably between Mumford & Sons and the Swedish House Mafia. Unsurprisingly, the single was a worldwide hit, reaching the #1 spot in thirteen countries and #5 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Songs. In the UK singles charts, it became the fastest selling single of 2013 so far, moving approximately 267,000 copies in its first week. #TRUE, Avicii’s first full-length studio album, promises to deliver plenty of ground-breaking musical experimentation in the vein of “Wake Me Up!”. Collaborators include vocalist Aloe Blacc, Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger, and country artist Mac Davis. According to Avicii himself, the album is about “showing the endless possibilities of house and electronic music” and incorporating “influences you wouldn’t expect”. If “Wake Me Up!” is any indication, the album will do just that. #TRUE is due for release on September 17th of this year.

Avicii began producing songs and remixes in his bedroom at the age of 18. With influences such as the Swedish House Mafia, Eric Prydz and Daft Punk, his melodic house sound quickly gained a massive following within the dance music scene. Following collaborations with several prolific producers, including the iconic DJ Tiesto, he burst onto the mainstream with the 2011 megahit “Levels”. The single reached the #1 spot in several countries, as well as the UK Dance charts and Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs. Since then, he has released a slew of notable tracks. He pushed the boundaries with the experimental track “X You”, which was created using the submissions of 4,199 producers from 140 countries, making it the world’s largest musical collaboration.
