Leonardo DiCaprio's Winning Film "The Revenant" Stays Fierce - Edges Out "Force Awakens" At The US Boc Office On Its Opening

With multiple wins at the recent Golden Globes and major nominations in the upcoming 88th Academy Awards,  film “The Revenant” starring Leonardo DiCaprio directed by Academy Award winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu is fiercely strong at the (U.S.) box-office  with an incredible opening (Friday, Jan. 8) of $14.4 million, edging out “Star Wars: The Force Awakens’” ($10.75 million) that day.
               
“The Revenant” best seen on the big screen, is on its way to $100 million with an estimated gross of $97 million to-date.  Inspired by true events, “The Revenant” is physically intense and emotionally gripping story of a man presumed to be dead but came back to life.  The legend of Hugh Glass, as he is regarded to be the revenant, someone who came back from the dead, is played by Leonardo DiCaprio.   Part thriller, part wilderness journey, The Revenant explores primal drives not only for life itself but for dignity, justice, faith, family and home. 

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Returns to PH Cinemas Jan 8‏

In response to deafening clarmor from fans, Lucasfilm's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will return to regular Philippine cinemas on Friday, Jan. 8.

“The Force Awakens” has been showered universal praise, even garnering a Best Picture nomination from America's Broadcast Film Critics Association. It has shattered box office records since it hit theaters worldwide in mid-December.

Most recently, the seventh film in the Star Wars saga blew past the domestic grosses of both “Jurassic World” ($652.3 million) and “Titanic” ($658.7 million) to become the second-highest earner of all time with $740.3 million in just 19 days of release.

This has been the most awaited movie of the year, and many have high hopes and expectation for the film. As the Star Wars franchise made a mark in pop culture and has been part of many generations who have seen it, collected toys and merchandise, games, and even had cosplays of it. 

To start a whole new films that follows the timeline after the original trilogy which stars Mark Hamil, Harrisson Ford and Carrie Fisher. As a lapse of over 30 years, lot has changed in the galaxy far far away. With a new kind of evil that rose from the previous empire, a new villain Kylo Ren emerges to seek the destruction of the rebels.

There also comes the characters of Poe (Isaac), Rey (Ridley), and Finn (Boyega) who will start a new path and will also be connected with the Resistance. It will be refreshing to see Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker for this one. But let us not forget that there are also the droids C3PO, R2D2, and the new favorite BB8.

"Zootopia" Spoofs Posters of Blockbuster Films‏

The hype behind “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is brushing off to the animals of Disney's “Zootopia” as the latest film from Walt Disney Animation has released a batch of new posters, spoofing four of the biggest films of 2015, including “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Jurassic World,” “Cinderella” and “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

Rookie bunny cop Lt. Judy Hopps of “Zootopia” is transformed into Daisy Ridley’s Rey in “The Furce Awakens,” Cinderella’s glass slipper gets stretched out for a “Cinderelephant” poster, giraffes roam the Earth in “Giraffic World” and Christian Grey becomes Mr. Lemming in “Fifty Shades of Prey.”

Not to be outdone, an original new one-sheet art of “Zootopia” has likewise been revealed.

The New Villains of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens"

The baddies of “Star Wars” have always been the cooler ones. Just one look at Darth Vader and the stormtroopers, and you know they absolutely kick ass.

For “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the mantle of villainy has been passed to Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson and Gwendoline Christie (HBO's “Game of Thrones”) who play the evil triumvirate Kylo Ren, General Hux and Captain Phasma, respectively.

Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan & Abrams, and features a cast including actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. They will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.

New "Star Wars" Film "Awakens" Earlier in PH on Dec 17‏

Lucasfilm's “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” director J.J. Abrams' seventh installment in the beloved franchise, will open across the Philippines on Thursday, Dec. 17 – this was announced today by a spokesman of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

The Philippine opening is one day ahead of most territories in the “galaxy,” including the US, where the film will debut on Friday, Dec. 18.

Star War fans across the world have witnessed the first look at select new products inspired by the upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the world's first live global toy unboxing event unfolded across 12 countries 15 cities and 18 hours.

In the most epic product launch ever mounted, select toy and merchandise inspired by the upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been revealed for the first time in YouTube. The celebration was hosted out of Los Angeles, with live unboxing beginning in Sydney, Australia (Evening of Sept 2, US Time), and the grand finale at LucasFilm, home of star Wars in San Francisco (Morning of Sept 3, US Time).

Star Wars Fans Join Road Safety Advocacy

The Philippine Garrison of the 501st, an international organization of Star Wars fans who dress up as the villains from the film franchise, supported the cause of #SaveKidsLives.org by promoting road safety messages at the “Fans of the Force” event held at SM Southmall, May 1, 2015.

The event launched the celebration May the 4th which is considered Star Wars Day by fans of the franchise all over the world. Locally, the “holiday” is spearheaded by The Philippine Garrison of the 501st.  Known as the Bad Guys Who Do Good, members of the 501st wear their costumes at events in order to raise funds for charity, especially children's causes. 

REEL DEAL: “AVENGERS” Sequel, “CINDERELLA” Lead Disney's 2015 Line-Up

Walt Disney Studios Philippines will release nine movies in 2015, led by Marvel's “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the live-action “Cinderella” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the first Star Wars installment since 2005.

Disney's opening film for the new year will be Rob Marshall's “Into the Woods,” already a December blockbuster in the U.S. and stars Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Chris Pine and Emily Blunt. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel — all tied together by an original story.

In March, “Cinderella” will get the live-action treatment, the way Disney brought fantasy characters like “Maleficent” and “Alice in Wonderland” to the bigscreen. “Cinderella” is directed by Kenneth Branagh and features Lily James (“Downton Abbey”) and Cate Blanchett.
