Loss of Strength A Top Health Concern In The Philippines

It is well-recognized that loss of strength is a reality for most adults as they age.  Loss of strength may be an indication of a decrease in muscle mass or not getting the right level of nutrition, otherwise known as nutrition gaps.  In the Philippines, strength becomes even more important as one ages.2 In fact, a survey among Filipinos aged 40 and up shows that loss of strength is their top health concern.1    In addition to the natural decrease in muscle mass as people get older, several factors such as poor food choices, decreased appetite or difficulty in digesting certain foods contribute to muscle loss.

Nutritional Status Has An Impact On Muscle Health

Nutritional status has a great impact on muscle health and strength.  In a clinical nutrition review, lower absolute hand grip strength values were found in malnourished patients when compared to well-nourished hospitalized patients.

Electrolux calls out for better environments for children with asthma

Electrolux invites everyone to send 10,000 straws to school staff members and other decision makers across the globe in the #spacetobreathe initiative.

A straw can be more than just something for drinking. Electrolux, a global leader in home appliances, gives this everyday item a new meaning in their latest campaign to raise awareness on a potentially serious illness— asthma.

About 14% of the world’s children suffer from asthmatic symptoms, and it has been a leading cause of school absenteeism, and a common reason for children being excluded from sports and other activities. In the Philippines alone, around 10 million people have this disease. By asking 10,000 school staff members, sports coaches, and decision makers to breathe through a straw, Electrolux hopes to inspire the community to create asthma-friendly environments.

Quality learning for children of all abilities

For some children, their life would always be different from the rest of the world. Some cannot find the right words to speak their hearts’ desires, others curiously ask what each color looks like, while some walk to their everyday tasks, trusting the touch of a companion and the friendly sound of nature to lead their way.

They are different, they are unique, and they are unlike anyone else.

Still, like all children in the world, each child is a promise waiting to be fulfilled. A promise of a celebrated and colorful life, experienced and seasoned with everything the world has to offer. Each child has a chance to live and be the person they wish to be—whatever they are capable of doing so, physically and mentally.

DepEd issues IPEd Curriculum Framework

In recognition of the right of indigenous peoples to culturally rooted and responsive basic education, the Department of Education (DepEd) adopted the Indigenous Peoples Education Curriculum Framework (DepEd Order No. 32, s. 2015) which aims to provide guidance to schools and other education programs as they engage with indigenous communities in contextualizing the K to 12 Curriculum based on their respective educational and social contexts.

The said framework is a fruit of a series of consultations with community elders, leaders and implementers of community-based Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd) initiatives. As a major milestone in the enhancement of the IPEd Program, it will benefit more than 1.19-million IP learners enrolled in public schools, as well learners enrolled in community and civil society organization-run schools. In line with this, DepEd has started a training program for teachers and school heads in schools serving indigenous communities.

My Physical Age is 52!? I Need To Reverse Aging With Ensure Stay Strong Grip Challenge!

Practically speaking, we all get old, we all get weak, however it is our option if we get stronger or deteriorate by time. I do admit that age will show on how I perform more than the physical appearance. I too a test and got the shocking physical age of 52! This was indeed shocking knowing that I am only just 28 years old, I am physically double my age.

This reality opened my eyes that I have to do something, and many of us millenials might be on the same state or probably worse. Now, I am challenged to bring my physical state to the right age and manage my weight as well. It is time to get stronger.

The case is quite different from veteran actor Edu Manzano, who is almost a senior but looks, act, and lives his life like someone on his twenties. Aside from showbiz, he is also engaged in business, sports, etc. He still does that things he loves to do and now he is also the perfect brand ambassador for the nutritional drink Ensure
