MUSIC LYF: Richard Poon, New Label New Album Legends

Richard Poon has become a household name  for singing cool and calming renditions of all -time favorites and even OPM. Having 5 studio albums is a testament of his success despite his genre and music style is far from the popular birit-loving pinoy taste. Now he has another new album out this week.

Richard Poon is enjoying a lot of firsts this 2013. And one of them is his new album with a new record label, Universal Records. He also shifted his music style from Big Band to Pop which he was also success with his songs. He is also gearing up for an upcoming concert, his tours and new friends with his switch.

He hails from a family of singers and chefs, before his music career he use to cook for his Dad's restaurant, Mr. Poon's. Her mother is a singing superstar in Taiwan and her sister also does singing gigs and Richard would even say that she is better than him. Nevertheless, their family is indeed talented and which helped Richard with his musical career.

Though this would not be that jump-to-the-beat pop which many would expect, he still keeps that cool calming voice which is his best asset. Despite being formal with his looks, he is fun loving and witty. He also made revelations about his current girlfriend, Maricar Reyes. First is their engagement, and also the kind of music she loved (which is different from his genre).

His move to Universal he said was not easy due to commitments with his former label. He is optimistic that his new album will provide great opportunities for him as they also target Asian countries like China, Korea, and Taiwan. When asked if he would like to have a Mandarin album, he said that he would love to but might need to work on his Chinese first since he got accustomed in speaking Tagalog and English.

Richard Poon says goodbye to Big Band; returns to pop in Legends

After years of performing Big Band tunes, singer Richard Poon returns to pop with the release of his newest album Legends, his first project with new label Universal Records.

“Not a lot of people know that I started in the music industry singing pop songs,” says Richard Poon. “I perfectly believe that now is the perfect time to go back to my roots- pop. This time, with my new label, Universal Records.”

He adds that making this decision was not that easy, but believes that this project will further improve him as a singer, performer.

Richard adds that he welcomes the challenge with open arms, and he hopes that people will continue supporting him and his music.

Richard joins the elite roster of Universal Records artists – Gary Valenciano, Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez, Noel Cabangon, Christian Bautista, Gloc-9, JayR, Sam Concepcion, Parokya Ni Edgar, Sponge Cola, Callalily, Kamikazee, among others.
