MUSIC LYF LISTENING ROOM: Richard Poon - Legends

Last month Richard Poon shared his latest album LEGENDS under Universal records, as well as the news that he and Maricar Reyes will get married. Here at Listening Room, he is one of the first OPM artist to be featured in this section for Music Lyf.

This is Richard's new album is also his first with the label and also a slightly different feel from the big band genre but I do love the album as it is a great chill album, in these times of most of the other songs out there belt their hearts out this brings us back to basics and also appreciate smooth and easy music.

Now lets listen to Legends:

A Song For You - The version is a more mellow version of the original, though less aggressive, it still brings the message of the song.

All At Once - This is the first time I heard a male version of this, I do felt that Jose Marie Chan was singing this version, It has this nostalgia factor which we all love.

All In Love Is Fair - I felt sad with the song, but the song is really good, the theme and Richard Poon's style changed the mood of the song somehow

Truly - This is my favorite for this album, great ensemble of what Richard is great at and instruments just right to set everything in place.

And I Love Her - I think this ia good dance music for me, a good break from relax music to get some parts moving to the beat.

Crazy - This is has the 90's feel to it but I feel that this is the most relaxed song in the album which could bore some people.

Ready To Take A Chance Again - this can be a great recovery song for brokenhearted people, 'nuff said.

Can't Help Falling In Love - probably the mellowest version of the song, it actually had a different feel from all the other version, probably the most cheesiest one.

If I Keep My Heart Out Of Sight -  The song is the closest to his image as a big band style singer, another favorite for this album.

Borderline - interesting pop song selection which shifts the mood to a bubbly trance, snap... snap... snap...

The Girl is Mine - this features Christian Bautista and since they are both balladeers, great collaboration and mix of two OPM singers. I giggled with Richard's British speaking accent.

Evergreen - No this is not Stupid Love by Salbakuta, the song is what I consider an "elevation" song which can be a soundtrack when you feel like floating up to heaven.

Overall rating : 7.2 out of 10.0

Richard Poon's Legends is a great collection of songs that deviate from the fast-paced beat of many but touches the inner peace (yes, aKung fu panda reference) of the listener. This also goes well for people having cheesy moments and would like to slow down especially on Sundays (or restdays).
