Seven Lakes Komiks Festival 2024 Brings Komiks Beyond The Metro

Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the Metro Manila convention scene, and join us this May 11, 2024 as we celebrate Filipino Komiks at the Seven Lakes Komiks Festival! To be held at the cozy and laidback premises of Casa San Pablo, this event seeks to create a komiks-centric space to release new books and introduce new and old creators to each other in a relaxed community setting.

San Pablo is rich with Komiks history, and partnering with both the Komikero Komiks Museum started by the late Gerry Alanguilan, and with Casa San Pablo, the Seven Lakes Komiks Organizing Committee aims to provide a fun filled day of reading and dialogue about komiks, connecting creators with readers, and hopefully create a new fans as well. Our event is proudly sponsored by Komikon Inc.,  (short description of Komikon),  and CARD MRI Publishing House Inc., a local publishing house under CARD Mutually Reinforcing Institutions (CARD MRI), that aims to "to elevate the capacity of CARD MRI clients by providing progressive and positive stories." We are also supported by The Graphic Literature Guild, a student organization for artists, writers, and comic enthusiasts based in UP Los BaƱos, and will be covered by our official media partners Indie Komiks Podcast and Blink Creative Studio.

Confirmed: Kalsada Heroes Are Coming To Comics

The top-trending and much talked about digital art series on social media dubbed as Kalsada Heroes is now being adapted to a full comics series to be released in 2023 by Pheroes Comics.

It all began when FEU multi-media arts student Eman Jacob creations went viral on social media last year called the Kalsada Heroes, a digital art series, which includes super hero characters based on our favorite Filipino street food.  The digital art Kalsada Heroes even made it to the news on national TV and was shared on social media by excited fans.

What made Eman Jacob’s concept different is how he gave the streetfood vendor some superpowers. “I think it gives an important message to viewers that these ordinary vendors are actually our modern-day heroes. They’re people who work hard for their families,” Eman Jacob states, “I also thought I would give it a twist and make them superheroes since they are also real-life daily heroes; they feed us, they give comfort, and their sacrifices are very inspiring especially to their own families.”  Of course, there is also that touch of social relevance in all of this as Eman said in one interview, “People usually look down on their jobs but it is one of the most honorable work one could have.”

Converse x Komiks, A Match Made In Punk

Shoes are Boring Wear Sneakers, this is the new mantra of the world known sneakers brand converse best known for their Chuck Taylors, and they had campaigns that not only promote their well-loved brand but also how the new generation will enjoy their lives with it.

That philosophy is also what komiks artists also share which is now on a new age of artistry and audience. Upgrading yet timeless giving its lasting permanence. Then how about having a crossover between them?

Converse Philippine recently  held an event at their flagship store in Glorietta to launch their in-store customization area "Punk Your Chucks". Renowned Filipino komik book artists Kajo Baldisimo and Bow Guerrero - of Trese and Dark Colony fame, respectively-were on hand to showcase artwork of their characters donning converse, and to "live paint" one of a kind pairs of Chuck Taylor All Star Sneakers for their fans.

Mabuhay ang Pinoy Komiks!

After KOMIKON, Back and Bloggin'!

I apologize for quite a hiatus for probably a week because of KOMIKON. But since its over and I'm now free, I can now attend to provide you again with the latest news and events today. Here I offer an apology cake for all readers and keep posted for anything new I love to share with you all!

But first of all I would like to congratulate the KOMIKON for a job well done for this day. Too bad for me that I came in late to sell my comics KRISIS KOMIX (Identity Krisis and World Krisis). It was a fun day for me despite my ailment in my leg. Had fun with comic friends. Though I don't have enough budget for comics for this time, I am happy to see that this industry is growing again in the digital age.

Blah Blah Blog RAINY DAYS: To Zoo or Not To Zoo?

TO ZOO OR NOT TO ZOO... That is the question.

Another trendsetter this week was the Infamous condition of the Manila Zoo posted in a post by Propinoy.net. The post showed the very poor condition of the animals with their nutrition and also their health and also untreated wounds. It is really a sad to see the animals at this conditions, especially it was my first zoo experience in my life. And I have been to several other zoos like Avilon and Malabon which takes good care of the animals. Though I prefer seeing animals in the wild but zoos can be a source of a sanctuary for animals that needs special care and not primarily for entertainment.
