REEL DEAL Movies and Television: Cowboys and Aliens Spotlight

Cowboys and Aliens
Spotlight: Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig : from James Bond to The Old Vic, and to Jake Lonergan in Cowboys and Aliens has proven himself time and again in a wide range of roles.

While action star Daniel Craig may not be the first person one considers when the words “American cowboy” come to mind, director Jon Favreau, who transformed Robert Downey Jr. into a superhero in Iron Man, has a knack for inspired casting. He saw something both familiar and iconic in the British native that would fit the character of Jake Lonergan, the lone, amnesiac stranger who wanders into the former boomtown of Absolution just in time to save it from total annihilation.

COUNT ME IN! Help World Vision Philippines to Get 11,000 Kids to School!

The School year has started yet many of Filipino children are deprived of the right to education because of poverty. This are the main reasons why there are still a lot of poor people in the country. As the government is also limited in providing free education its good to know that there are foundations that aid the cause to send more children to school to be better citizens.

World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organisation dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. Motivated by our Christian faith, World Vision is dedicated to working with the world’s most vulnerable people. World Vision serves all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender.

World Vision partners with children and the communities among the poorest areas to help improve lives and combat poverty.World Vision strives to build thriving communities where peace and justice prevail and all can enjoy security, opportunity and happiness. We work for the well-being of the poor and vulnerable people through: Sustainable development. World Vision works alongside the disadvantaged communities enabling them to use their own capacities and potentials so that they can own the development process.Emergency Response and Disaster Relief. World Vision responds to life-threatening situations where its involvement is needed and appropriate. I seeks to protect vulnerable people amid difficult circumstances by providing emergency relief such as food, water, shelter, medicine, clothing, and disaster preparedness trainings.

Raising Public Awareness and Advocating for Justice.

By increasing understanding of poverty and injustice, World Vision seeks to promote public involvement and government policies that alleviate poverty. Our BeginningsWorld Vision was founded by American Dr. Bob Pierce in 1950 following his life-changing trips to China and Korea. Dr. Pierce was awfully moved by the impact of the war on children. He set up orphanages to care for those who were abandoned or whose parents had died. By the 1960s this work had expanded to meet the needs of refugees in Indochina and the survivors of disasters in Bangladesh and Africa. Eventually, Child Sponsorship was started to provide long-term funding assistance to help poor children worldwide.Over the decades World Vision’s approach has shifted from welfare provision to collaboration, partnering with communities and individuals to seek solutions to tackle poverty.

Their Philosophy

As a non-denominational Christian oragnization, World Vision aims to share and demonstrate the love and compassion that Jesus Christ extended to all people, especially to children, particularly to those living in poverty or suffering from oppression and injustice.
