Timothy Spall's Quasi-James Bond Adventrure With Pierce Brosnan In "The Love Punch"

Timothy Spall, known for his role as Wormtail in the blockbuster movie franchise “Harry Potter” films, stars alongside Pierce Brosnan and Emma Thompson in the action comedy movie “The Love Punch.”

A very contemporary feel good comedy, “The Love Punch” sees Brosnan and Thompson as Mr. and Mrs. Jones,  a divorced couple who team up again to steal back their stolen retirement fund.  Timothy Spall portrays Jerry, a friend of the couple's who's willing to help them get back what a financial embezzler stole from them. "People have lost trust in banks and I suppose “The Love Punch” is also a revenge movie as well, where the victims of a corporate calumny get their own back", he relates. "I'm pretty sure people can rejoice in that way!"

ZAP away dengue-carrying mosquitoes this summer

Summer fun is just around the corner as classes wrap-up and both kids and parents look forward to the school holidays. This means trips to the beach, vacations in the provinces, or simply just more days playing outdoors to enjoy the carefree season. There’s one risk, however, that we should look out for this summer: dengue-carrying mosquitoes. We should take steps to prevent a potentially fatal dengue infection from ruining summer for us and our loved ones.

Dengue is already a year-round disease in the Philippines. And in the summer, we tend to spend more time outdoors, wear thinner clothing, and expose more skin because of the heat. This makes us an easier target for dengue-carrying mosquitoes that bite during the day (mosquito species A. albopictus) and during the night (A. aegypti). Both of these species of dengue-carrying mosquitoes are present outdoors and indoors, increasing the risk of dengue infection for everyone.

To have a dengue-free summer, especially for the kids, here are a few reminders on prevention:

Put screens over windows and install screen doors. Screens on windows and screen doors will keep dengue-carrying mosquitoes out while still allowing us to open the doors and windows of our home so it won’t be so hot on summer days and nights.

Celebrate real-world connections with McDonald’s and Coca-Cola!

People nowadays have a lot of options when it comes to interacting with one another. All the advancements in technology, smartphones and gadgets allow us to communicate online via messaging apps and social networking sites. And more often than not, more connections start happening in the digital world than in the real one.

This is why McDonald’s and Coca-Cola, two iconic, global brands and long-time partners, which champion happiness, enjoyment and togetherness, are taking a stand and encouraging people to stay offline a little longer and enjoy real-world connections. Although embracing online connections, McDonald’s and Coca-Cola believe it is our physical interactions which make our digital lives more meaningful—that real-life moments, such as hearing a story in person, receiving a warm hug and sharing a McDonald’s meal and Coke drink face-to-face, are those which create lasting memories.

MUSIC LYF: Gloc-9’s Myx Music Awards bodes well for mainstream Pinoy music

Gloc-9 won four major awards in the Myx Music Awards 2014 (MMA2014), the most for any artist who was nominated.

But what is more important about this win, is not so much the fact that Gloc-9 won in four out of six categories that he was nominated in, nor that he won four times more than any other artist.

It is that Gloc-9 won it for a song like “Magda.”

The idea of Magdalena is not new. The legend that is Freddie Aguilar introduced us to “Magdalena” in the early 1980’s, a folk song about the plight of a girl who was misunderstood because of the work she was forced into doing. In the Aguilar song, Magdalena is seen as “sawimpalad,” living a wretched life, where her story is one of choicelessness.

She was invited by Karl Edward International and Zumba Wear Philippines to showcase the latest fat-burning moves.

“We are proud that C-Lium was able to participate in this worthwhile event,” says Catherine Reyes, Senior Brand Manager. “The event is very much in line with our vision of letting people achieve sound inner health through a combination of good diet, exercise and fiber supplementation.”
