MUSIC LYF: Zia Quizon

Pure Talent comes naturally, and even her parents are celebrities she went further to stand out with her breezily uplifting blend of pop, soul, jazz and retro R&B is here to sway you away as Polyeast Records proudly announces the release of Zia Quizon self-titled mini-CD album.

Showcasing her talent as one of OPM’s young singer/songwriter could probably go beyond being a daughter of the Comedy King Dolphy and OPM’s Divine Diva ZsaZsa Padilla because Zia is here to prove that she’s is a breath of fresh air in her debut album.

Featuring her positioning single “Simple Girl” is notably one of her masterpieces since she started learning her craft. Zia said “I draw inspiration from everyday experiences or a particularly strong feeling that I have at the moment. I believe that songs become more meaningful when you’re feeling emotional and in a way come from a very real place. And when you finally finish a song, the most fulfilling feeling about the whole process when you take a step back and think, ‘That pretty much sums up how I felt at the time.’” She wrote the song “Simple Girl” and obviously mirrors a young simple girl she really is.

The album’s first single is “ Ako Na Lang” an original composition and produced by Mr. Jungee Marcelo. “I’m proud to say that all the songs in the album were arranged to my style of singing. My producers made sure I was comfortable with singing the songs in the album,” Zia added. It also now being heard on the radio and will soon be accompanied by a music video.
This memorable six-track release full of feel good music includes three original composition and three revivals. Borrowing a song which led her mom, ZsaZsa Padilla, to the height of her career in the 80s, “Mambobola” is one of the album’s highlights. Zia said, “We were throwing some ideas around and I think I actually suggested the song myself. I felt that it would be very nice to have one of my mom’s songs on the album as a kind of tribute to her for all of the things she has done for me.”

Giving credits to her very supportive dad, Dolphy, a contemporary classic piece “Smile,” becomes a more-than-promising start for the young artist reviving Michael Jackson’s version. Sharing her musical influences, Zia said “Aside from my mom, I would say that my dad’s taste in music really shaped mine. He influenced me to appreciate the classics—from standards to classical to world Music and even oldies.”

Another remake in the album is the track “So Much In Love” which was originally by Sheena Easton brings out Zia's melodic sensibilities mixing with much jazz with her carefree spirit.
Tapping into elements of soul, jazz and pop, Zia beautifully shapes these songs to become her step toward something – Zia’s simplicity and her artistic breakthrough -- that has its own considerable rewards. Original compositions also include the perky “Dear Lonely” written by Kiko Salazar.

She also explains, “I think that each song has its own character—kind of like that different sides to me. So, each song gives you a different feel without losing the general flow of the album.” Zia really is a gifted singer whose soulful singing and beautiful personality shine through on this release. In this album, Zia showed herself to be capable as an artist and a creative songwriter as well. “I tried to put as much of my personality in the song choice and the music as I could. So it isn’t just an album to me, it’s a piece of me that I am offering to anyone who will listen. The album may not be different, but hopefully I am.”
