Mayor Guia Gomez Goes All Out In Support of Sen. JV's Reelection

Mayor Guia Gomez maybe ending her term as mayor, but there is a job she keeps in her lifetime, to be a mother to Senator JV Ejercito. As her only son she is in full support of him in every step of the way, which is why she joined politics to continue his son's plan for the city which was JV's legacy.

Going back their younger days, they had a decent life despite the complicated set up linked to Joseph Estrada and his families. Despite this, Guia shares that she was behind Erap when he protested his Mayoral bid in 1967 wherein they appealed up to the Supreme Court and eventually won. With this victory, Guia was recognized as the first lady of San Juan.

She did not continue with politics after being first lady at that time, she focused more on doing business with trading, real estate and food. Along with this, she also headed several organizations such as Balikatan sa Kaunlaran (BSK) National Foundation where she served as National President;  she also became the president of the Pink Ladies National Foundation, also the Chair of San Juan Council for Women, Honorary Chair of the Philippine National Red Cross-San Juan Chapter, Rotary Club of Davao, Governor for National Capital Region North of the National Council of Women of the Philippines, Director of the Recovery Circle Foundation and a Convenor of Family and Life Movement.

With a long list of organizations she has been with, she still doesn't forget to be a mother and a wife. She learned to look with the help of Erap's mother Dona Mary which was really good in the kitchen. She was also hands-on as a parent to JV who loves collecting even as a boy. She shared that there was a time she was asked to buy a Voltes V action figure which costs P800 back then, yet she was hesitant because it was too expensive.

But she always support him in his decisions especially when he joined politics for the mayoral position. After completing the allowable tenure, he sought her mother to replace him as he pursued his congressional bid for the city.

Though there was hesitation because of her lack of experience, she obliged to his request and ran on the 2010 elections. She was able to seek reelection for two more terms and now finishing her tenure this year.

Despite the challenges and success of her administration, she now wants to have a graceful exit with the achievements she has done as part of her legacy as a mayor. She won't pursue a different position but prefers to continue to live as an ordinary citizen who would take care of her grandchildren.

With the ongoing elections, she is in full support of JV for the senatorial bid. She will be taking a breather this coming Holy Week which also falls on her upcoming birthday April 20. On that day, she will be serving her special Bacalao for family and friends which she only makes once a year.
