Blah Blah Blogs: Paalam Pidol

by Freely Abrigo
Indeed it really hurts my heart to see the passing of the King of Comedy. Dolphy or Rodolfo Vera Quizon has been part of so many generations with unparalleled comedy which gave him the title of "King of Comedy".  He made hundreds of movies, TV shows and countless fans that have gained him respect and love. As a kid of the 90s, my memories of him is his role as Kevin Cosme of Home Along the Riles.

Though I have not seen all of his film (mostly clips from his movies in the 50s), he is considered a "National Treasure"  for his contributions in the industry. Alongside FPJ, he shaped Philippine cinema with his roles from almost all profession and even gender. He is also the sole actor who was able to have a Darna movie.

I know it will be hard for the Quizons for this loss, same goes to the industry. from Manual to Lyf, we send our deepest condolences for the loss of the country of the King of Comedy. As a tribute, I offer my simple poem.

Paalam Pidol

Hari ng Komedya
Ngayon ika'y lumisan
Iniwan mo sa amin
Walang hanggang kaligayahan

Saya at Tuwa
Ang dala ng bawat pelikula
sa TV, radyo at kahit sa social media
marami ang nakakaalala

Sa mga taong iyong ginampanan
si John, Kevin o Markova
Facifica, Jack, Tatay Nic
Juan, at marami pang iba

Ngayon ikaw ay lumisan sa mundo
naging makabuluhan ang buhay mo
Sa limang dekada ng Pelikulang Pilipino
Tunay na mananatili ka sa aming puso
