Korean Idol Henry Lau Now a Hollywood Star with "A Dog's Journey"

K-Pop idol and member of the world-renowned Super Junior-M Henry Lau makes his Hollywood feature film debut in Universal Pictures’ feel-good drama A Dog’s Journey, the sequel to the heartwarming global hit A Dog’s Purpose.

Lau plays Trent, the best friend of the film’s female lead, CJ (Kathryn Prescott).  In the film, beloved dog Bailey finds his new destiny and forms an unbreakable bond with CJ and Trent that will lead him, and the people he loves, to places they never imagined.

The Korean superstar was impressed by the level with which director Gail Mancuso asked him to develop his character.

“From our first meeting, Gail and I started talking about our ideas for the character,” Lau says. “Because Trent is Chinese-American, Gail was open about my interpretation of how the character should be; we made Trent together.”

Meanwhile, Lau discovered while working with Kathryn Prescott that their characters on-screen became mirror images of their connection offscreen.

“We fell into this comfortable friendship quite quickly,” he says, “which was a nice surprise because we had never met before. Kat prepped for scenes by listening to music, but occasionally she would get right in my face before we started shooting. She’d smile really big and say, ‘Do I have anything in my teeth?’ Sometimes I would say, ‘Yes,’ just to tease her.”

Henry Lau is a Toronto-born singer and actor who has become a major TV, music and fashion icon in South Korea and Asia. In 2008, he debuted as a member of a popular Korean pop group and has since become a household name.

In June 2013, Lau became a solo artist with his first extended play album, “Trap,” which peaked at No. 2 on South Korea’s Gaon album chart list and spawned the single of the same name. The album was also on Billboard’s Korea K-Pop 100 weekly singles.

Soon after, in both Korea and China, Lau began to build a career in television as a regular cast member of top-viewed shows including MBC’s I Live Alone (Korea) and Hunan TV’s Happy Life (China). In 2014, he appeared with Michelle Yeoh in the Pan-Asia drama film Final Recipe.

Lau is a multifaceted artist who attended the Berkelee College of Music in Boston. He plays the piano, guitar and violin and is fluent in English, Mandarin and Korean.

In Philippine cinemas May 15, A Dog’s Journey is distributed in the Philippines by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.  Follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/uipmoviesph/ ; Twitter at https://twitter.com/uipmoviesph and Instagram at http
